Before this past September, Ben Bucher and Craig Janssen spent eight years working in information technology and commercial loans, respectively. Now, they spend their mornings baking and their afternoons greeting visitors who stop in for lunch at the Great Harvest Bread Company. "We always wanted to start a business," Bucher said. He and Janssen are now owners of both the Peoria and Morton locations. "We wanted to do something different."

Wow, what a long cold winter this has been, so nice to see the sunshine and know warmer days are on the way.  The Tourism office is busy planning our events and of course looking down the road to when we have to hang the Christmas decorations. That's right I said Christmas!!!

A challenge faced by all public school districts, superintendents and members of school boards is finding the most effective means by which to communicate to and with our public.  On our end, we sometimes ask "what more can we do?" and on the other end of the spectrum, the public demands more information, more transparency and wishes we would do a better job of explaining our decisions.   Community engagement is an incredibly important task set forth for boards of education.    This task is so vital to the healthy functioning of a public school district that the Illinois Association of School Boards identifies community engagement as one of the five Foundational Principles of Good Governance.
