So much has been happening in the Bayview recently. Public Glass has been hosting several great events, including their great Hot Glass, Cold Beer. We recently met with the Salvation Army to talk about an exciting collaboration opportunity. The Building Resources exhibition in their new Reclaimed Room looks wonderful and features two SCRAP artists. The 3rd on Third events at the Bayview Opera House are always a lively party on the third Thursdays of the month. The Opera House is also hosting Thursday Pop-up Markets, don't forget to check out the Community Supported Agriculture boxes sold by adorable children who grew the fruits and veggies themselves. And of course, here at SCRAP, we're always changing and improving.
I'd like to welcome our new Warehouse Coordinator, Sarah Godfrey, as well as two new staff members, Margaret and Claire. And I am very excited to welcome three new community members onto our Board of Directors. SCRAP is always looking for passionate people to join our board of directors, so if you or anyone you know are interested, please let us know.
One thing that will never change at SCRAP is that we will always offer high quality art workshops. We have two great ones coming up: Make your Mark with artist Dorothy Yuki, where you will learn to make your own calligraphy pens and create spontaneous art, and Exploding Picture Box with amazing book artist Jody Alexander where you will create a multi-layered box with images. We're also offering our popular Board Game Book Reports in our Workshops for Educators program (WE SCRAP!), using a story to create a 3D interactive board game.
I hope to see you at one of our workshops, outreach events or at the warehouse soon,
Shuai Chen
SCRAP Executive Director

Turn a favorite book into a board game. These 3D interactive book-reports help students identify the basic story elements: theme, setting, characters, sequence of events and plot. SCRAP Workshop -
|
Saturday, February 22nd 10am - 4pm
Sunday, February 23rd 10am - 1pm fee: $80
Join artist Reddy Lieb In this one and a half day workshop to create a mixed media assemblage. There are many stories to tell from the materials and with the materials that come into SCRAP. Come and materialize your story by making a "Spirit House". In many Asian countries a spirit house is usually in the form of a small house that stands outside the home as a retreat for ancestors. It can also be a shrine to a protective spirit. Put an intention into your artwork and play with mixed media, glass and collage to create a house of the spirit.
About Reddy For over 30 years Reddy Lieb has been working with glass and recycled materials to create both conceptual and functional work. She was Artist-in-Residence at Recology San Francisco, aka the garbage dump. And received her MFA from the California College of Art. Reddy loves inspiring the creative process in people and has been doing so for over 20 years.
