Board Report

Yesterday I was in SCRAP and came across the image of the Roman God of Janus. He is usually depicted as having two faces, since he looks to the past and to the future.
Janus made me pause and think about were SCRAP has been and where are we going. Looking back we have come a long way since our founding in 1976 as the Bay Area's first creative reuse center.
The other face of Janus looks to what the future may bring. What will SCRAP do in 2014? An Art Show, More workshops, More fun SCRAPPY Sundays, More community events... SCRAP will definitely host the loved teacher give-away days. In 2014 please join SCRAP by volunteering, donating, coming to SCRAP events and shopping. Let me take this opportunity to thank you for being a supporter of SCRAP plus send a small thank you to that Roman god for which January is named.

SCRAP Workshop -
|
Saturday, January 25th 10am - 4pm fee: $60
In our busy lives we often learn the same lessons over and over again. We find ourselves in similar situations again and again and wonder how we keep getting there. In this class not only will participants learn to make a recycled glass and mixed media art piece using some of the fantastic materials found at SCRAP, they will also be creating a talisman to serve as a reminder of the things they already know but have forgotten. Starting with imagery and other collage materials, Reddy will show participants how to make an intentional reminder that can be used throughout the year to help keep our goals clear and keep us moving forward instead of falling back to old habits or patterns we wish to shed.
About Reddy
For over 30 years Reddy Lieb has been working with glass and recycled materials to create both conceptual and functional work. She was Artist-in-Residence at Recology San Francisco, aka the garbage dump. And received her MFA from the California College of Art. Reddy loves inspiring the creative process in people and has been doing so for over 20 years.

SCRAP Workshop -
|
Saturday, February 22nd 10am - 4pm
Sunday, February 23rd 10am - 1pm fee: $80
In this one and a half day workshop participants will create a mixed media assemblage. Using the myriad materials of SCRAP, endless stories can be told. Come and materialize your story by making a "Spirit House". In many Asian countries a spirit house usually takes the form of a small house that stands outside the home as a retreat for ancestors. It can also be a shrine to a protective spirit. Put an intention into your artwork and play with mixed media, glass and collage to create a house of your spirit.
