Greetings!
As we wrap up the year 2012, there is so much cause for celebration. Here at SCRAP, we have diverted more materials then ever this year, more than half a million pounds, we've gone to over 50 community events to inspire creativity and curiosity in children and adults, we started our WE SCRAP (workshops for educators program) helping make creative reuse education more accessible for teachers and so much more. We're also celebrating our 4th creative reuse exhibition, held at the Arc Gallery in SOMA and featuring 54 Bay Area artists and 71 pieces of amazing artwork created out of SCRAP materials. If you missed the opening, we're hosting a party at the show this Saturday complete with hands on creative reuse projects taught by some of the artists who we are featuring in the show. Congratulations to the artists and our exhibition coordinator, Jenny Morningstar, for a wonderful show. As you gather presents for the holidays, don't forget that SCRAP has gift cards for the artists and crafters, teachers and nonprofits in your life. We also have a variety of unique holiday decorations and presents, holiday cards, gift-wrap and more. And please don't forget SCRAP in your gift list, come in to make a donation or donate online here: scrap-sf.org/donate. Hoping your holidays are merry and bright, Shuai Chen

WE SCRAP! Workshops for Educators present a creative reuse project that can be taught in the classroom, uses SCRAP materials, and directly ties into the curriculum. Participants learn and create the project and then obtain a classroom materials package complete with an instruction sheet that includes a list of California Content Standards that the project fulfills. 10am to 1pm fee: $15 (for educators only)
Just in time for the Lunar New Year, introduce your students to the history and making of a useful and artistic object, the fan! The fan has been utilized by people all around the world dating back thousands of years. Fans can be a gateway for the art of illustration and painting, music and dance, poetry and writing, mathematical concepts, science, cultural understanding and art appreciation. Sherie will present a variety of art media and techniques to produce fans in a classroom setting. The lesson can be adapted to any level of instruction and covers cross-curricular ideas while meeting state teaching standards. Sherie Yazman is a retired SFUSD art educator and a National Board Certified Teacher.

Tempered Glass Mosaics w/ Reddy Lieb
Saturday, Jan 26th 10am - 4pm
Sunday, Jan 27th 10am - 4pm
Join us for artist Reddy Lieb's first weekend workshop at SCRAP! Her tempered glass mosaics glitter magically as they refract light giving a glimpse of fanciful veiled collages underneath. Reddy will show participants how to transform small eye-catching pieces of broken glass into beautiful mosaics. Come learn how to work with this magical material and create a recycled mixed media piece. Participants will work with collage materials found at SCRAP and adhere them to a piece of wood, a box or other 3D form. Then, you will cover the collage with tempered glass. The second day of class the mosaics will be finished with colored grouts to enhance the design.
About Reddy
For over 30 years Reddy Lieb has been working with glass to create both conceptual and functional work. She uses recycled materials in her work and in 2000 was the Artist-in-Residence at Recology San Francisco, aka the garbage dump. In 2004, she received an MFA from the California College of Art. Reddy loves inspiring the creative process in people and has been doing so for over 20 years.
