Well it happens to the best of us! I tried to bid on a really nice merit badge sash this week that had about a dozen of my needs and I got toasted. Even when I clicked the button to double my bid amount (more than I really wanted to pay) I got beat. Say what you will but some areas of this hobby still have a few people willing to spend some $.
Vintage eBay Boy Scout Auctions This Weekend
There was some discussion on Facebook regarding the red arrow patch in the lot below. I believe the consensus was that it's a military unit patch. Of course those get mixed in quite a bit with old Boy Scout collections.
As I was toasted on my Boy Scout bid this week I'm happy to report there wasn't as much competition in the Girl Scout world. I won my very first GSA item on eBay this week - scoring a uniform with over 30 pre-WWII badges on it for less than $100. Maybe I shouldn't be talking about all that and stirring up the competition?
Just to prove to a few of the readers that I don't hide the good auctions I'll tell you that the merit badge sash below is one I'm going to bid on. I doubt that my high bid will take it home but it's a nice sash and I am picking up Eagle medals when I come across them.
So how about this for ingenuity. One of the readers has a wife who is a Realtor in the Charlotte area. After announcing in the Hot Finds my resettlement plans I got a nice card from her yesterday offering to help my family relocate. Talk about the Boy Scout hook up! :)
Saturday I'll be at the GSA Memorabilia Show with camera in hand and lots of questions for the vendors. There are two seminars planned and I'm really looking forward to attending. I would love to see more Boy Scout guys offer seminars at their TORs!
