Friday Morning Edition
March 6, 2015

I have been working on my eBay store this week and this time it was CSPs, SAPs, and RWS that got the attention over on my eBay store at www.Patchblanket.com.  The addition of about 400 council shoulder patches has kept me hopping the last few days shipping items out.

I was lucky enough to get a Type 1 Silver Award medal in a collection a few years ago.  At one time people considered that to be a $1000-$1500 medal so we will see if this one can bring that old money.

I used to own a 1967 split window VW bus.  In the days before kids that was one of my projects that eventually go sold on eBay.  So my hats are off to Puvunga for using the classic bus on their patch design.

I'm making a run to my antique mall booth in Florence later today and I'll be dropping off several more boxes of patches.  Typically patches don't do very well in an antique mall setting but I'm giving it a shot.  Last Sunday a family in my Girl Scout troop was there and bought 27 $1 patches off of me so I guess it's possible to do it.

I met with the Junior Girl Scouts last night and we are planning on their big service project to earn the Bronze Award.  These are 4th - 5th graders and their highest award is nothing like the Arrow of Light.  The key part of the Bronze Award is working together to organize a service project that involves other people in the community.  We attended a meeting about a month ago with people concerned about a coal ash pond that holds about 55 acres of toxic waste left over from a decommissioned coal fired plant in our town.  At the meeting a concern was raised that another concern about the Lumber River (that runs through the middle of town) is all the trash in it.  Despite being one of the few rivers in the state given the designation as a National Wild and Scenic River our local population have trashed the river.  So last night my Scouts decided they are going to organize what we are calling the Lumber River Scout Sweep on May 2.  The girls are going to make all the arrangements and then recruit the other Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops in town to pitch in for a morning river sweep that Saturday.  We are also going to host a cookout lunch for everyone who takes part. This is a building block to the girls eventually working on their Silver Award (Jr. High) and Gold Award (High School) where they will have to take leadership over a lasting service project.  I'll be sure and share more as we get closer to time.

Have a great weekend,
