eBay Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter
Sunday Morning
February 22, 2015
While some of you were spending this weekend at a TOR I was taking the Girl Scouts to spend the day with some engineering students at NC State.  Other than that minor scrape with a '98 Nissan Sentra we made it home safely.  This is the second time I've had issues trying to park the church mini-bus in Raleigh for Girl Scout events.

A really cool thing happened on the new website I've been focused on recently.  For the first time ever I had a guest post published on the site.  One of the ideas of www.ScoutPatchCollectors.com is to make it a place to share stories and resources to help the hobby.  Well non other than Destry Hoffard wrote and published a great reminiscence about the famous Apple bags from the 1985 Jamboree.

I got in the OA during the summer of 1986 and YES a few of the really cool patch traders that came back from the Jamboree in my lodge had Apple bags.  Like Destry it took years before I got one for myself but I'm proud to say today I own 2. :)

Years later while working in a school the media center lady was throwing out old stuff and I snagged what I like to call a "Super Apple Bag".  It's basically made of the exact same materials but is was meant to carry a large CPU type computer and so its like a big box almost a 2' across cube.  Not as useful as the laptop case from '85 but I couldn't pass it up.

The Infamous Apple Bag From the 1985 National Boy Scout Jamboree
My Sunday trip into the podcast archives continues with the overall 6th episode of the show.   In this episode I interview my personal Internet Jedi Master.  My friend Paul Gowder grew up in Santee with me and was a year ahead of me in college at the University of SC.  In this show I interview him about the website he started as a hobby which has now turned into a true business with tens of thousands of visitors.  Click the link in the bottom box to listen.

Join me for Part 1 of my interview with Paul Gowder the webmaster of PowWows.com.  Paul is an Eagle Scout and Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow.  In 1996 he launched PowWows.com and took it from a simple platform for sharing knowledge on dancing and PowWow etiquette to a full blown family of sites now fifteen years later with tens of thousands of users.  I also have a recorded clip from Craig Leighty the President of the International Scouting Collectors Association (ISCA) regarding the 2012 NOAC Trade-O-Ree.  Craig breaks down all the details on the upcoming show of the year for the hobby..

This episode was recorded in November of 2011 and was a very personal show for me.  Paul is my long time friend and Internet mentor (he was in my wedding!) and this conversation was a chance to really go back and talk about the early days of putting up websites when we were in college.
