Converge Northwest Update
February 2015

When Needs and Goals Collide

NEED- It is generally agreed that the best way to reach people far from God is through church planting.  In the Northwest millions of people are far from God.

GOAL - 200! That is the number I believe God gave me, and I announced that at our Annual Meeting in October.

200!  It is just a number.  But, what does it mean? When I came into this office over 8 years ago, I believed God called me to light a fire of evangelism in the northwest. I talked a lot about that my first couple of years as the DEM. What I didn't talk about was that I also believed God gave me the number 200.  I always wrestled with its meaning. Could it be 200 pastors? 200 messages? In my heart of hearts, I knew He meant 200 spiritually dynamic, engaged congregations in the northwest. I personally believe I was too hesitant to raise this challenge for our northwest movement. Yet, there I was, at our annual gathering, boldly declaring God had called us to multiply to 200 congregations.

On the heels of our meeting, newly elected Converge Worldwide President Scott Ridout, announced his belief that God has called us to multiply. He broke our task into simple steps: 1) Open the front door, 2) Close the back door, 3) Tear down the wall; and, 4) Build the house.  How do the two tie together? This month let me just focus on opening the front door. In the days ahead, I will talk more about the other 3 steps.

1.  Open the front door.
As a movement we start churches. Earlier this month, 30 church planting leaders from all around Puget Sound, came together to pray, discuss, dream and plan for new churches. It is clear God is calling us to stretch our faith. Exciting days are in front of us.

The dots on the map show potential locations where churches could be planted by our movement, just in the Puget Sound region. Since that meeting several of those pastors have gone back to their congregations to build awareness and momentum for planting.

Right now we have 5 church plants in motion across the district and three more potential planters assessed and preparing for church plants. We also have several "Church Planters in Training" serving in church plants.

We have opportunities like l have never seen before. The challenge, of course, is resourcing.  Personally I have set out to raise as much money as I can for Converge Northwest Church Planting.  In fact, my personal goal is to raise $500,000 for Converge Northwest this year. This is $150,000 above and beyond our budget. The needs are so significant.

Opening the front door also means inviting new congregations to join our movement. We all can be engaged in the recruitment of churches to join with us in the Converge movement.

So let me conclude this short epistle by inviting you to join us. You can pray. You can give. You can watch for and invest in emerging leaders. You can help. We can do this together!

200!  I'm all in!
