Dr. Jerry Sheveland, President of Converge Worldwide Announces Succession Process

   
President Jerry Sheveland has announced his desire to begin a formal succession process to find the next President of Converge Worldwide. Dr. Sheveland shared this statement with the Converge Worldwide Board of Overseers on April 2, 2014:
   
I believe this is the right time to plan and implement a wise transition process to identify my successor to lead Converge to the next level of ministry effectiveness. The Board of Overseers has requested that I remain in leadership until the next President is in place. Dee and I are so grateful for the joy we have experienced serving our Converge family. We are confident in the Lord's good plans for the future of our movement.

Serving the churches and ministries of Converge Worldwide over the past fourteen years has been an incredible privilege. By the grace of God, I believe that what I felt called to do as President has been largely completed. The Lord has blessed our movement with unity and ministry momentum around a shared mission - starting and strengthening transformational churches. In partnership with District leaders, we have seen our national movement grow by 300 churches and 100,000 worshipers. Our annual baptisms have more than tripled as a result of the Holy Spirit's work through faithful pastors, church planters and church members. Under Executive Director, Ivan Veldhuizen's leadership, our International Ministries team is experiencing a wonderful season of refocused vision and renewed energy. National Ministries, under the leadership of Executive Director, Dr. Michael Henderson, is excelling in our church strengthening process. Interim Executive Director of Church Planting, Gary Rohrmayer, has brought church planting to a new level of alignment with our districts and churches, providing new opportunities for assessment and coaching. In addition, Senior Vice President, Dr. Doug Fagerstrom and Vice President and CFO, Steve Schultz, are doing an exceptional job of directing our ministry in Orlando and Arlington Heights.

The Board of Overseers was unanimous in affirming President Sheveland's leadership and his decision to begin an orderly and healthy process of succession. While Dr. Sheveland is not submitting his resignation or a date for retirement, he is making himself available to serve until such time as a healthy transition can be made.

Following historical precedent, the Board of Overseers appointed a special search committee that includes four members of the Executive Committee of the Board of Overseers, plus five at-large members. The Board of Overseers is especially grateful to Pastor John Jenkins of First Baptist Church of Glenarden for his willingness to offer his time, influence and spiritual leadership as the chairman of this special search committee.
