 Rev. Steve Welling Executive Minister Maybe I am crazy - This is not an End-of-the-Year Donation Request. This time of year I get bombarded with "End of Year" donation requests. I am sure you do too. I am glad to report that this is not an end-of-the-year appeal. I should quickly add that if you would like to make an end-of-year donation, we are more than willing to receive your support for our ministry. Maybe I am crazy to not search for those end-of-year tax deductions. The truth is, I am more interested in your support for 2013. We always have bills to pay and ongoing expenses, but as I look at 2013, I get excited about the ministry to come. We are going to be more aggressive in the coming year in recruiting church planters. We are developing long term strategies for taking the gospel into new communities throughout the Northwest. And we are developing long-term strategies for strengthening our pastors and established churches. We have adopted a five-focused approach to our ministry: - We are champions for prayer ministry. Our region needs spiritual revival. That is God's business, so we encourage pastors and churches to prayer. I am especially encouraged by the 6:4 Fellowship.
- We start and strengthen churches. Most people are familiar that we are involved in church planting. The need for new churches is enormous. We want to do our part. But we spend even more time and resources helping our churches be as strong as they can be. We coach, consult and fortify churches and leaders. That is why we promote events like The Network Gathering in January.
- We encourage and equip pastoral leaders. Pastors are surrounded by people, all the time, but I often hear that they are lonely. God has called pastors into one of the most difficult challenges you can imagine. We have a unique ministry that comes alongside our pastors and staff members, to resource, reassure and support their ministries. This why we sponsor events like the Pastor and Wives Retreat at Cannon Beach, April 29-May 1, with Stuart and Jill Briscoe.
- We engage in the global mission. As a movement of churches we are moving more and more to a church driven missions philosophy. Out of our office, we want to do all we can to encourage our churches in their global mission. This is why we are holding our first Converge Northwest Global Summit on March 9th in Federal Way. Also, watch your Inbox for our separate Global Missions Newsletters.
- We Resource Churches. We look for opportunities to help churches in any way that we can. This could be helping through our group property and casualty insurance, guiding pastoral search committees, or helping churches with a variety of transition issues.
So, I may be crazy for not talking about the end of the year. But I don't think it is crazy to invite you to support our ministry in the future. If you are not already supporting Converge Northwest, will you consider becoming a part of our support team? We need you to make a Kingdom difference in the Northwest. We need strong churches. We need more churches. We need healthy leaders. We need YOU!
