Greetings!

In the wake of Hurricane Sandy and the Nor'easter that followed, I hope that everyone is safe and meeting the many challenges with the help and support needed from friends and family. My thoughts are with all those who experienced a loss of any kind and I hope each of you has a happy and healthy Thanksgiving.

JUNIOR TOUR ALUMNI

Morgan Hoffman (Ramapo) & Kevin Foley (Immaculata) dominated high school golf in 2005 & 2006. Both won state player of the year honors and left for college with trophy cases full of state and regional awards. In fact, Foley & Hoffman finished 1st & 2nd in the 2008 MGA Ike Championship. Both players had to Monday qualify week to week just to make enough money to earn full exempt status leading into the final 7 weeks on tour.

Hoffmann  played in 13 Web.com Tour tournaments and made 12 cuts. While he didn't win, he came close losing in a playoff in the Chiquita Classic in late September. His final round 64 in the Tour Championship vaulted him into the Top 25 on the money list which earned him his 2013 PGA Tour Card. After a very successful run at Oklahoma State and a rich amateur career, we are looking forward to watching him on the PGA Tour.

Foley had to post a good score in the final round of the last tournament prior to the tour championship just to get into the top 60. A Sunday 67 was good enough for a tie for 5th in the event and secured his spot in the Tour Championship. While Hoffman was shooting a Sunday 64 and in contention for the championship, Foley was firing a 65, vaulting up the leaderboard on his way to a tie for 13th. Kevin was too far outside the Top 25 to earn his 2013 Tour Card but he found himself exempt into the 2nd stage of PGA Tour Qualifying School, otherwise known as Q-School. Kevin played well this week at Q-School but finished 1 shot out of making it to the Final Stage. His rounds of -2. -2. -1 & -4 were good enough for a top 20 finish but the top 19 and ties made the next round. Although disappointed, Kevin is already looking forward to his full season on the web.com tour and I expect him to be a PGA Tour rookie in 2014.

Morgan and Kevin are both on twitter. Follow them and let them know you are a NJPGA Tour Member and share their passion for the game and dreams of playing in college and beyond.

RULES & ETIQUETTE
This section is usually reserved for rules situations that come about on a week to week basis. I am going to use this time to emphasize the etiquette side of the game.  I am sure you are all tired of me harping on the little things like replacing divots, fixing ball marks and properly disposing of trash on the course. Well, as we wind down 2012 and I start searching for sites for 2013, here are three letters I received from clubs that don't paint the nicest picture on how we behave. It only takes 1 or 2 incidents to leave a bad taste in someone's mouth and apparently we did this year. I am embarrassed to have to post these on the internet but I truly hope it is an educational experience.

100 Hole Marathon

Scheduling conflicts, a hurricane and a nor'easter couldn't stop me from completing my marathon. On November 13th I joined some of our PGA Professionals and friends at the Plainfield West 9 and we finished the event. Although I came up short of my goal of raising $10,000, we pooled our donations and are nearing $75,000 with money still coming in each day. Thanks to many of you, I raised a little more than $4,200. That money has already been put to use as I just shipped one of our Golf in Schools educational kits to a special needs program in Clifton's Public School System. Special thanks to the Podell Family for pledging the largest amount of money in 2012.
