2012 Campaign In Full Swing!
It's hard to believe we kicked-off our campaign in August, and we are already in December! At this point, so many campaigns have run; nearly 200 tours, agency fairs, and agency speaker opportunities have taken place. So many of you made your campaigns fun this year by having cake walks, hot dog and hamburger cookouts, dunking tanks, talent shows, change wars, bake sales, and so much more. It has truly been an inspiring and encouraging campaign so far.
We are thrilled to report our campaign results to date: $2,710,751 which is 62% of our $4.15 million goal. WE STILL HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO. Some may not have had the opportunity to run their campaign yet or had a chance to give. United Way of the CSRA is committed to improving life in our community by maximizing the impact of charitable contributions. No matter how big or small, every dollar counts!
Remember, it's never too late to invest in OUR community. Please contact Rina Powell at rpowell@uwcsra.org or 706-922-8928 for more information, or you may give online at uwcsra.org.
Inaugural CFC Golf Tournament A Great Success!
The inaugural Combined Federal Campaign Golf Tournament was held at Gordon Lakes Golf Course on November 17, 2012. The tournament registration started early in the morning with overwhelming responses from teams and individual players. The weather was a perfect day for golf with well over 50 golfers participating. This event directly supported the CFC by helping to raise money and awareness about the mission of the Combined Federal Campaign. This year's inaugural event was sponsored by NSA/CSS Georgia and spearheaded by Dave Rutherford.
The CFC continues to offer federal donors a great opportunity to make a huge difference in people's lives within our local community and across the country by helping to support hundreds of charitable organizations. Several federal agencies have already wrapped up their campaigns and have done a tremendous job this year. With just a week remaining, we hope everyone will take the time to get involved and push for those last contributions within each federal agency. With a strong push here at the end, we are hoping to reach our goal of $750,000.

Program Spotlight
United Way 2-1-1 | |
|
A local restaurant hostess recently shared her testimony of how United Way of the CSRA 2-1-1 made a significant impact on her life. She had a coworker named Kate who was diagnosed with terminal cancer. With no family or known resources in the area, Kate was distraught about her future. Luckily the hostess and other workers rallied around Kate to help her find respite. This desire to help led the hostess to the American Cancer Society who referred her to United Way 2-1-1.
Accurately assessing her situation and needs, the Information and Referral Specialist directed the caller to The Lydia Project where she received much needed resources and services. Ultimately, Kate's health deteriorated, and she was no longer able to work. She moved home to Florida where she could be cared for by her family. Because of her experience with 2-1-1 in Augusta, the hostess advised Kate's family to contact their local 2-1-1 in Tampa for needed resources.
To hear the hostess' testimony firsthand was heartwarming because she was so proud of the help she offered Kate and the way in which her call was handled by the Information and Referral Specialist. Nancy Szocinski, 2-1-1 Coordinator, said it best, "It is one thing to see how many referrals are made each year, but to hear this testimony reminds us that we are touching people's lives. The reason 2-1-1 exists is to make a difference with the referrals we give. It's all about the outcomes and not just the numbers."

Born Learning Tip
for Winter
Did you know that 20 seconds is the proper amount of time to wash hands to ensure they are clean? The holidays are prime cold and flu season, and we want to be sure our children maintain healthy hand washing practices. Getting them to remember to wash their hands all the time is hard enough, never mind for 20 seconds.
Look for hand sanitizer bottles that come in cool animal shapes and colors and add them to your child's stocking this year. Not only are the bottles fun, but you will be teaching your child how to FIGHT OFF GERMS!
