August Kick-Off - Last Chance to Register!
We are counting down the days to the 2014 August Kick-Off. Online registration closes on Thursday, Aug 14th with limited room for walk-ins at the event. Reserve your space now! Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to choose what you what to learn about, to speak with GSOC staff, and to mingle and share ideas with other leaders, plus hear from GSOC CEO, Nancy Nygren, and keynote speaker, Dr. Jacqueline McLaughlin, Assoc Professor of Biology from Penn State University and Founding Director of Penn State's award-winning international professional development and environmental education outreach program.

 

August Kickoff - Leader Workshop

What Can A Girl Do? Take the Lead in Goal Setting & Budgeting

90 percent of girls say it is important for them to learn how to manage money. However, just 12 percent of girls surveyed feel "very confident" making financial decisions (Having It All GSRI study, 2012).  Learn how to guide your Girl Scouts through goal setting & budgeting in a fun, interactive way at the August Kickoff!

The 2014-2015 membership year begins October 1st - renew your family now so you don't miss out on another fun year of Girl Scouts!
 

Join the Service Unit Fall Product Team  

Service Units are recruiting now for these exciting positions for the Fall Product Program:

  • Service Unit Product Manager- supports Troop Product Managers, reviews reports and coordinates the other 3 positions; requires Excel proficiency.   
  • Service Unit Drop Shipment Coordinator -receives, collates and distributes materials and recognitions.
  • Service Unit Distributor - takes delivery of product and distributes to troops. 
  • Booth Sale Coordinator - Sets up sites for fall & cookie booths, requires Excel proficiency.

Did you know that the average family orders 6 magazine subscriptions each year?  Girl Scouts will earn a portion of the proceeds if you order or renew your favorite magazines from your favorite Girl Scout.  Check out the  Fall Product website for dates & details.

 

Register for Family FUN!  Open House & Fall Product Rally

Girls, families & troops are all invited to join us Sat., Sept. 20 for our annual Open House.  This free event will take place at our Irvine Headquarters from 10 am until 2 p.m.  Plan for your experience to take about an hour.  Register online by Sept. 10 and receive a prize!  Fun activities, snacks, shopping, earn a patch, service projects & more.

Mother Nature Walking Tours   Everyone

Free walking tours through 2014 for all Girl Scouts! Take a guided tour of Santiago Oaks Regional Park in Orange as you work on a Naturalist Badge covering the indigenous Tongva history & culture while learning about Orange County's environment, plants, and animals.

Race for the Cure GSOC Team - Sept. 28   Everyone

Join the Girl Scouts of OC Team #1538 at the 23rd Annual Orange County Race for the Cure 5K! GSOC Team participants will receive a team T-shirt, health and fitness expo access, and a mini brunch.

 

Cadette-O-Rama - Oct 10-12   Cadette

Get ready to act out your favorite movie, or dress up as your favorite actress.  Whether you're a fan of the classic tinsel town or the glittery Hollywood era you won't want to miss this annual outdoor skills weekend camping event for Girl Scout Cadettes.

Cadette-O-Rama Lookie Loos - Oct 11   Junior

Girl Scout Juniors are invited to see this spectacular event first-hand and enjoy skills and fun events set up just for you. You will also see Girl Scout Cadettes as they participate in this yearly "Cadette Only!" event.. After the event, you'll have time to visit the campsites and see how the Cadettes put this creative theme to use.   

 

Save the Date! Scouting for Food - Nov 8   Everyone

Join in as Girl Scouts of Orange County and Orange County Boy Scouts of America collaborate in this annual all ages food collection service project serving Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. Learn more about how Scouts unite to feed the hungry @ Scouts Unite.

  Camp Scherman

Don't forget that you can use your cookie dough to pay for camp. Come up and experience camp as a troop during a weekend camp or for your own adventure during a weekend camp with you and your parent. 
 

Is your camper going up to camp? We are looking for a few good (adult) chaperones to ride the bus up and back with the campers. Volunteer chaperones will receive an exclusive Camp Scherman shirt and enjoy lunch at camp. Date needed:  August 15

2014 WEEKEND CAMPS

Sign up as a troop or as a parent-child pair.  Registration is now open for Weekend Camps through Dec 2014!  Click here for a complete listing and more information on all weekend camps.

 

Family Camp - Aug 29- Sept 1   Everyone

Enjoy a unique and relaxing weekend camp experience with family and friends. Explore wide-open spaces and enjoy staff-planned nature and camp activities for all ages, including hiking, crafts, games, gardens, campfires, archery, and canoeing. Provide your own tent, RV or camper, or stay in one of our mountain cabins. Sign up for our weekend meal plan that includes seven meals, or bring a propane stove to prepare your own meals. No charge for children 4 and under! Register Now!

Whether you are new to camp, or you are a weekend camp warrior, unplug from your busy life and recharge at Camp Scherman. Hang out on the lake or at the museum. You get to create your schedule of activities, be as busy or relaxed as you like. Camp Scherman is the perfect place to have fun and strengthen the bond with the special girl in your life. Together you can enjoy a variety of fun and interactive activities.  Cost: $135 per person.  Register Now!

Playing games your thing? Like to run, dodge and capture the other teams flag? Spend time learning and playing new and exciting games and revisit some great games of the past, all while still enjoying the other programming options that are offered at camp ... Ready? Boo Bash Weekend Camp - Oct 24-26   Everyone
 
Calling all camp and Halloween enthusiasts! Join us for a fun filled Halloween themed weekend. Trick or treat your way through the program areas. Canoe on the lake, aim for the pumpkin at archery and raise the roof at our dance party. Costumes welcome.  Register Now! $135 per person, all weekend camps must have proper girl: adult ratios.

Learn Troop Tent Camping AND Outdoor Cooking in ONE day!

Register for O'Neil Regional Park Outdoor Essentials and learn to pitch a tent, outdoor safety, cooking methods, creating menus and much more!  Join us on August 23rd from 10am-4pm at O'Neill Regional Park for this hands-on learning extravaganza!
