Call for Presenters at August Kick Off - August 16th at UCI

Our annual enrichment event for volunteers, August Kick Off, starts our Girl Scout year off with a bang! This year we are inviting you to present your expertise and/or skill to educate and inspire our adult volunteers. Submit your proposal to be an August Kick Off presenter by April 14. Workshops and Learning Sessions of all lengths and varieties from volunteers or community contacts will be considered. Data can be entered in your proposal and saved as you get more information, so don't delay in starting the process!  Questions?  View the FAQ or contact [email protected] or 949.461.8853.

 

Have You Nominated a Girl Scout for Celebrate Leadership?
Celebrate Leadership is our annual fundraising event, and we're looking for a few great Girl Scout representatives to share their Girl Scout story with 400+ community leaders, receive professional speaking training and coaching, participate in a professional photo shoot with an OC community leader and more!  Nominate a girl by Apr 15!  

 

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month

We each play a part in promoting the social and emotional well-being of children and families in our communities- learn more. You can find additional resources on the GSOC Volunteer Network.

2013 Cookie Dough and OC Bucks Expire April 30th

Please remind girls to redeem their 2013 Cookie Dough & OC Bucks before they expire on April 30th. We wouldn't want them to miss out on using them.  More info

 

Cookie Super Seller Celebrations

Many Service Units are planning local Super Seller Ceremonies for this spring.  See your Service Unit Cookie Manager for details of local ceremonies.  Council event dates are:

 

500+ Cookie Club:  Girl's Day Out event- Sat, April 5

750+ Cookie Club:  Outdoor Adventure Day- Sat, May 10

1000+ Cookie Club:  San Diego Zoo trip- Sat, June 14  

1000+ Cookie Club:  Banner Parade @ Angels Game- Sat, June 7, evening

1250+ Cookie Club:  Dinner & Awards Ceremony- Wed, May 28

Troop Movie Experience:  Sat, June 7th, morning


Details are emailed directly to the girls who earned and chose these recognition options. Girls may choose the Cookie Dough option OR the recognition item. They do not receive both.

2014 STEM & the Arts Career Showcase - Apr. 11-13  Everyone

This FREE showcase will be filled with vendors ready to excite your mind in the world of STEM and arts careers! Talk with STEM career professionals, see student robotics and invention exhibits, media arts displays, industry speakers, youth performers, Fashionomics show and more! 

 

Girl Scout Family & Friends Night with LA Galaxy Soccer - Apr 12  Everyone

LA Galaxy invites you to Girl Scout Family and Friends Night to cheer for your favorite soccer team and have a blast representing Girl Scouts with your family and friends! Plus a portion of every ticket sold will come back to the Girl Scouts of Orange County!

 

ToGetHer Boating - Apr 13   Senior Ambassador

Come learn or practice sailing, land skills, rowing, canoeing, kayaking and paddleboarding! Last-minute registration extended through Friday!

 

Build a Bear Workshop Spring Community Service - Apr 19  Everyone

Build a customized cheerful new bear friend at a 10% discount, then donate it to The Jessie Rees Foundation to deliver to a child who is in the hospital. Girls will be making the world a better place while learning about the power of encouraging a child to Never Ever Give Up!

 

Girl Delegate Advisor Program - Apr 22  Cadette Senior Ambassador Volunteer

The Girl Delegate Advisor Program is a year-long program for Girl Scouts in 8th-12th grade to learn more about and experience the governance of GSOC, what it takes to be a delegate and more! Registration closes April 17th.

 

Water Awareness Day - May 3   Everyone

Join Santa Margarita Water District for this FREE exciting and educational community event complete with native flower planting, presentations, hands on tide pool, and more. Especially great for girls doing the WOW! Wonders of Water Journey!

 

ZeroTrash Cleanup - May 3  Everyone

Check out this community service opportunity that helps get the trash off the street. Girl Scouts are welcome to show up to this public cleanup event hosted by ZeroTrash.org.

 

Girl Scout Night at Angels Stadium - June 7 EveryoneTake me out to the ballgame-for Girl Scout Night! Be in our annual parade or come to enjoy and support your team. This event is a great way to bring the whole family out to the ballgame while proudly supporting the Girl Scouts of Orange County!

 

Wilderness Hiking - High Adventure Group  - June 29   Cadette Senior Ambassador Volunteer

Girls and volunteers! Spend your morning in the classroom and your afternoon on the trail for a beginner hike. Learn about safety, proper gear and equipment, and the Leave No Trace ethic. This class lays a strong foundation for more extraordinary adventures, such as backpacking.

Don't forget that you can use your cookie dough to pay for camp. Come up and experience camp as a troop during a weekend camp or for your own adventure during a weekend camp with you and your parent.

Camp Nights- parents, volunteers and girls are invited to join us to meet camp staff, ask questions, and get more information about Camp Scherman. Camp Nights will be from 7:00-8:30 PM.  To register for a Camp Night and get directions, please email [email protected]

Spring Weekend Camp Spotlights: 

 

Bridging Weekend - May 23-25   Everyone   $104 per person Troop 156 Bridging

This is a special time for those girls that are ready to move to the next level and want to share in the magic of camp in a ceremony that signifies the accomplishments and the adventures that lie ahead of each girl. Take part in planning and decorating for your ceremony as well as taking some time to participate in camp activities. No ceremony at camp would be complete without a cake just for you! Join us for your next step in Girl Scouts.

 

Me and My Guy - June 6-8   Everyone    $104 per person

Pack your car and head up to the mountains for a special weekend just for dads "or special guys" and daughters! Aim your arrow at the balloons on the archery range... how many can you pop? Race across the lake in a canoe then team up more fun times together, just you together. Girls -- plan a silly skit with your guy...you'll be amazed at what you can get him to do!

Ranch House Cabins - July 11- 13, July 18-20, July 25-27, $135 per person

Upper Camp July 11- 13, July 18-20, July 25-27, Aug 1-3, $104 per person  

Whether you are new to camp, or you are a weekend camp warriors unplug from your busy life and recharge at Camp Scherman. Hang out on the lake or at the museum. You get to create your schedule of activities, be as busy or relaxed as you like. This is your weekend- choose your own adventure and have a weekend to remember!

Summer Resident Camp Spotlights: 

  

Ranch House Camper Sampler - July 14-18

For girls entering grades 4-6  What will you do this summer? Don't sit inside when you could be in the crystal clear mountain air! Whether you are new to camp or come every year, unplug from your busy life and recharge at Camp Scherman with a little bit of everything - canoeing, archery, swimming, arts and crafts and more. Choose your own adventure and have a summer to remember!  Same great program offerings, but instead of staying in a cabin, or sleep shelter, girls sleep in a building with bunk beds and electricity, bathrooms and dining hall inside. 

 

Counselor in Training 1 -  July 14-25
For girls entering 11th grade

Discover your leadership talents and learn how to share them with children at one of the largest Girl Scout camps in the nation! Find out what the job of a camp counselor at Camp Scherman is all about. Program planning and other interactive skills will be shared while you discover your own leadership style.  

 

Apprentice - July 14- Aug 15 canp buddies
The Apprentice Program is designed for those who have completed CIT 1 and CIT 2 and are not yet eligible to be summer resident staff. The objective for the apprentice program is for the participants to learn and work in different areas of camp to gain experience in planning and implementing quality camp programming for appropriate age groups. There is an application and interview process and there are limited spots available for those interested. To apply, please contact [email protected].

  Volunteer Training

'Tis the Season (for the great outdoors)!

Need First Aid certification for an upcoming camp out or outing?  Check our Outdoor Progression Chart and see if this class can help!

 

First Aid/CPR - Apr 15 & 17, 6:00-10:00 pm, Anaheim Program Ctr                 $45 fee, participants must attend both nights to get credit.

Got Cookie Dough or OC Bucks? Check the back of your dough, because it might be expiring soon! Cookie Dough earned during the 2013 cookie sale and OC Bucks earned during the 2012 Fall Product Sale expire on April 30th!

 

Stop by the shop or print out an order form, include your Cookie Dough information and send it to us before it's too late!
