Invite a Friend to Volunteer

This month, invite a friend to start a Girl Scout Daisy, Brownie or Junior troop and you will get $50 to the GSUSA online shop. The new volunteer will receive program resources to make it easy to get started, including a Girls Guide, a Journey Set (Girl & Adult guide), and Badge Activity Set. Cookie Share:  The Tax Deductible & Calorie Free GS Cookie!

If you can't eat them, you can treat them!  Remind your girls to carry Cookie Share Receipts with them as they go door to door.  You can also print out this Cookie Share flyerfrom our website or Volunteer Network to add to your booth sale or Cookie Stand.

 

Booth Sales Begin Friday, February 14

All unreserved booth sale times may be scheduled by Troop Cookie Managers and GSI Coordinators on a first come, first served basis in

Snap.  Troops may reserve or cancel booth sales in Snap council-wide in "real-time". 

 

Prep Responsible Adults for Booth Sales

Only Responsible Adults may assist at booth sales.  Leaders or Troop Cookie Managers must ensure all adults at booth sales are registered members, cleared background screening AND trained.  New volunteers should complete the Volunteering for Girl Scout Series & Event online training before you conduct their Responsible Adults for Booth Sales Safety Briefing about the specific booth site. 

 

Celebrate your Years as a Member

Our Numeral Guard Pin recognizes a member's total years of girl and adult membership (in 5-year increments).  Tenure of 25 years or more will be recognized at our annual Recognition Event on June 1st at the Anaheim Hilton.  Please fill out this form  to recognize your or another member's years of Girl Scouting by April 30th. Join us at the Anaheim Hilton as"Girl Scouts Celebrate Our Newsmakers," at our annual recognition brunch honoring the accomplishments and contributions of our very own Girl Scouts and adult volunteers. Registration will open on April 1.

  Girl Awards & Scholarships

Do You Know A Girl Who Is Earning Her Silver Award?

 Silver Award recipients deserve recognition, and are entitled to certificates and congratulatory letters from the Governor and other dignitaries. Please let us know about any girl who is completing her Silver Award in 2014 (even if she is completing late in the year). Send her name, Troop number and Advisor's name to hmadrigral@girlscoutsoc.org by March 15 to ensure that she receives her letters in time for special award ceremonies this Spring.

 

Nominate a Girl Scout for Celebrate Leadership 2014 by April 15

Celebrate Leadership is a Girl Scout Council of Orange County annual fundraising event, and we're looking for a few great Girl Scout representatives!  Selected Girl Scouts will share their Girl Scout story with 400+ community leaders, receive professional speaking training and coaching, participate in a professional photo shoot with an OC community leader and more!  Learn more...

 

Girl Scout Award Nominations due March 12

The  Outstanding Senior Girl Scout Recognition, Juliette Low Spirit of Girl Scouting Award, and Take Action Awards will be presented to Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors.who can be nominated by a Girl Scout volunteer OR by a sister Girl Scout Ambassador.  In addition, eligible girls will be recognized as Graduating Seniors, Ten Year Award recipients, Gold Award recipients, and Bridge to Adult recipients; submit the Girl Awards Request Form to submit names and details for eligible Girl Scouts.

 

The Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes - Deadline Apr 15

This award celebrates outstanding young leaders, ages 8 to 18.  Each year, the Barron Prize honors 25 inspiring young leaders who have made a significant positive difference to people and/or our environment.  Top ten winners each receive a $5,000 cash award to support their service work or higher education.  Deadline is Apr 15.   Learn more...

 

Hasbro Community Action Hero Awards - Deadline Feb 25

Nominate a Girl Scout age 5-18 for this award, which recognizes outstanding young volunteers who have demonstrated outstanding service to local, national or global community, extraordinary effort in creating innovative solutions to community needs, and/or leadership of an exceptional service or advocacy activity.  Girl Scout Bronze, Silver and Gold Award recipients would be excellent candidates!  Awardees will receive a $1,000 educational scholarship.  Learn more... 

 

Kohl's Cares Scholarship - Deadline Mar 14

Nominate a young volunteer age 6-18 for this scholarship, which rewards kids whose volunteer efforts have made a positive impact on their communities.  Learn more...

  

Peace First Prize - Deadline Mar 17

The Peace First Prize celebrates peacemakers, ages 8-22, who have taken action to address injustice in their schools, neighborhoods, and communities.  Prize winners receive a Peace First Fellowship: $25,000 over two years to further their education and peacemaking work and training, mentoring and professional development.  Check out the 2013 prize winners and learn more...

Find The Mystery House!   Everyone  

Beginning Monday, February 17, Girl Scouts who find the Mystery House will receive a certificate a special, exclusive Mystery House patch!  There is at least ONE secret Mystery House in nearly every Service Unit. The FIRST Girl Scout selling cookies to stop by this secret location will earn a special patch!  See this flyer for details!

 Build a Bear Workshop Spring Community Service - Apr 12   Everyone

Come to the Build-A-Bear Workshop in Downtown Disney to build some friends that will help spread cheer and encourage kids to Never Ever Give Up! Girl Scouts of all ages are invited to come build a customized cheerful new bear friend at a 10% discount then donate it to The Jessie Rees Foundation to deliver to a child who is in the hospital.

Don't forget that you can use your cookie dough to pay for camp. Come up and experience camp as a troop during a weekend camp or for your own adventure during a weekend camp with you and your parent. 
 

Camp Nights- parents, volunteers and girls are invited to join us to meetcamp staff, ask questions, and get more information about Camp Scherman. Camp Nights will be from 7:00-8:30 PM.  To register for a Camp Night and get directions, please email ejohnson@girlscoutsoc.org

Create Your Own Weekends  Everyone

Whether you are new to camp, or you are a weekend camp warrior, unplug from your busy life and recharge at Camp Scherman. Hang out on the lake or at the museum. You get to create your schedule of activities, be as busy or relaxed as you like.  Ranch House Cabins: $135 per person, Upper Camp: $104 per person.  *Note: Aug 1-3: Upper Camp available only

Leader Daughter Weekend   Everyone

August 1-3, Ranch House Cabins 

Leave your troop in the city for one-one-one fun with your daughter in the beautiful outdoors. Enjoy a weekend with your favorite Girl Scout. We do the cooking and planning so you don't have to. Canoe on the lake, take aim in archery, take a dip in the pool and much more. Cost: $135 per person

Songsational- Sing and dance your way through the week! For Girls entering grades 4-6 

 

Camper Sampler- Unplug from your busy life and recharge at Camp Scherman with a little bit of everything - canoeing, archery, swim

ming, arts and crafts and more. For girls entering grades 2-3

 

Take The Reins- Beginner and Intermediate older girl riders will have funwhile focusing on instruction and arena riding, develop and strengthen your skills of mounting, dismounting, and riding position for walking and trotting.  For girls entering grades 4-6

 

Artrageous- Get your creative juices flowing and let your imagination go as you make your own unique jewelry, colorful tie-dye creations, and intricate lanyards. For girls entering grades 4-6  

 

Good Eats- Cook up a storm while you learn to prepare mouthwatering meals and delicious treats!  For Girls entering grades 6-10

 

Ranch House Camper Sampler- Unplug from your busy life and recharge at Camp Scherman with a little bit of everything - canoeing, archery, swimming, arts and crafts and more.  Same great program offerings, but instead of staying in a cabin, or sleep shelter, girls sleep in a building with bunk beds and electricity, bathrooms and dining hall inside. For girls entering grades 4-6

 

CIT 1-  Find out what the job of a camp counselor at Camp Scherman is all about. Program planning and other interactive skills will be shared while you discover your own leadership style. For Girls entering 11th grade.
