Fall Product Recognitions

All Girl Scouts should have received their patches and prizes for participating in the Fall Product program.  Troops should NOT hold for end of year ceremonies.

 

It's Girl Scout Cookie Time!

The Cookies are here!  Leaders & Troop Cookie Managers will want to check out GSCookiesETC.org and Resources & Forms for tools and helpful hints like "bundling" labels for our Super Snacks for Super Bowl promotion. 

 

Do Your Girls Need Permits for Cookie Sales?

Some cities require girls to carry a permit when selling cookies. Troop Cookie Managers were instructed to print and distribute as needed.  Leaders can also access this resource on the Volunteer Network, Product Sale tab, Forms link, Permits folder. 

 

Go Team!

As a team, the Imagine Series volunteers assisted over 400 girls to discover the world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, through leading girls in various experiments encouraging critical thinking skills.  The Imagine Series volunteers received the President's Award, given to a team of volunteers who move an area or audience toward achievement of the Council's goals.  To nominate volunteers for this and other awards, fill out a nomination form and submit it by the deadline February 4 at 6:08pm. (2-4-6-8, who do we appreciate?!)

Do You Know A Girl Who Is Earning Her Silver Award? 

Let us know about any girl who is completing her Silver Award in 2014 (even if she is completing late in the year). Send her name, Troop number and Advisor's name to hmadrigal@girlscoutsoc.org by March 15 to ensure that she receives her letters in time for special award ceremonies this Spring. 

  

Veterans of Foreign Wars Scout of the Year - Deadline Mar 1

Girl Scouts age 15 and older who have earned the Girl Scout Gold Award are eligible to enter the annual Veterans of Foreign Wars competition to identify the Scout of the Year!  Three students are selected to receive awards nationally, and scholarship values range between $1000 and $5000.

2014 Alcoa Chuck McLane Scholarship Program - Deadline Feb 10

Gold Award recipients who completed a "Take Action" project involving a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) are invited to apply for a $10,000 college scholarship, provided by Alcoa Foundation.  Interested girls should email Lesley Finch at lfinch@girlscoutsoc.org to request an application.

Online Cookie Marketing Tools   Everyone

Girls with adult supervision can set goals, send e-cards & download facebook announcements inviting family and friends to order cookies using online marketing tools on Cookie Command Center (COCO). Girls and families will find helpful information like Cookie Share Receipts on the Tools for Selling section of our website.

 

Free Tickets for UCI Basketball Game on Feb 1    Everyone

UCI has invited all Girl Scouts in Orange County and their families to attend the UC Irvine Women's Basketball vs. Cal Poly for free on Saturday, February 1 at 2 p.m. at the UCI Bren Center. Environmental Study Loop Grand Opening - Feb 1  Everyone

Come to the Crystal Cove State Park to explore the new Environmental Study Loop! This educational facility is great for girls working on their Naturalist Badges, Artist Badges and their It's Your Planet-Love It! Series Journeys

National Girls and Women in Sports Day - Feb 8 DaisyBrownieJuniorCadette

Girls and boys from 5-12 years old are welcome to participate in a clinic taught by UCI's female athletes in order to promote and encourage female participation in athletics. The day includes instruction in basketball, golf, soccer, volleyball, cheer, and track, with free admission to the women's basketball game right after the clinic!

 

GAM OD Meeting - Feb 22   Senior Ambassador

Interested in finding out what exactly GAM is and how to prepare your troop? Come to the OD Meeting (Officer on Deck, typically the troop president and advisor) to get the whole scoop on this competitive boating, swimming and nautical event at Newport Dunes that is a long-standing GSOC tradition!

 

Wilderness Hiking - High Adventure Group - Mar 15  Cadette Senior Ambassador Volunteer

Girls and volunteers! Spend your morning in the classroom and your afternoon on the trail for a beginner hike in Irvine. Learn about safety, proper gear and equipment, and the Leave No Trace ethic. This class lays a strong foundation for more extraordinary adventures, such as backpacking.

Build a Bear Workshop Sleepover - Apr 5   Brownie Junior

Build and dress your new Girl Scout Bear at this special overnight Girl Scouts-only event! Earn a badge, then pull out your sleeping bag and have a sleepover with your new furry friend and your Girl Scout friends! 

 

Build a Bear Workshop Spring Community Service -  Apr 12  Everyone

Come to the Build-A-Bear Workshop in Downtown Disney to build some friends that will help spread cheer and encourage kids to Never Ever Give Up!  Girl Scouts of all ages are invited to come build a customized cheerful new bear friend at a 10% discount then donate it to The Jessie Rees Foundation to deliver to a child who is in the hospital. Girls will be making the world a better place while learning about the power of encouraging a child to Never Ever Give Up!

Birds & Bees Connection - Jan through May BrownieJuniorCadette

The Birds & Bees Connection offers mother/daughter courses to generate an open dialogue about puberty and adolescence in a fun, comfortable and engaging environment.   Camp Scherman

Don't forget that you can use your cookie dough to pay for camp. Come up and experience camp as a troop during a weekend camp or for your own adventure during a weekend camp with you and your parent. 
 

Camp Nights- parents, volunteers and girls are invited to join us to meetcamp staff, ask questions, and get more information about Camp Scherman. Camp Nights will be from 7:00-8:30 PM.  To register for a Camp Night and get directions, please email ejohnson@girlscoutsoc.org

Create Your Own Weekends  Everyone
Feb 21-23, Ranch House Cabins, $135 per person
Feb 21-23, Upper Camp, $104 per person
Whether you are new to camp, or you are a weekend camp warrior, unplug from your busy life and recharge at Camp Scherman. Hang out on the lake or at the museum. You get to create your schedule of activities, be as busy or relaxed as you like.  Dates:  Feb 21-23, Mar 28-30, April 25-27, May 2-4, May 30-June 1.

Never seem to have enough time at archery? Grab your quiver, and take aim. Won't you join us for a weekend of archery and more archery with other camp activities added in for good measure? Play archery baseball, shoot for distance, it is a guarantee bulls eye weekend! 

 

Me and My Guy - June 6-8   Everyone       
Upper Camp, 104.00 per person   
Pack your car and head up to the mountains for a special weekend just for dads "or special guys" and daughters! Aim your arrow at the balloons on the archery range... how many can you pop? Race across the lake in a canoe then team up more fun times together, just you together. Girls -- plan a silly skit with your guy...you'll be amazed at what you can get him to do! 

Swimming and Swamping - June 6-8   Junior Cadette Senior Ambassador    

Ranch House Cabins, 135.00 per person

Grab your sunscreen and your swim suit for a weekend of water fun! Play in the pool, paddle across the lake, swamp (flip) your canoe and learn how to get back inside and paddle onto your next adventure. Bring your towel and flashlight and join us as the sun sets for a nighttime pool party. We've got lots of water and excitement in store for you! 

 

Starry Nights - June 27-29   Everyone   Ranch House Cabins, 135.00 per person Make a wish on a shooting star as you gaze up at the night sky from your campsite in the forest. Stargazing and folklore will fill your evening as you experience the primitive area of Camp Scherman. During the day, have fun out and about hiking, swimming, boating, archery, or whatever else your group decides!
