Outstanding Volunteer Profile:  Beth Barlow 

As we celebrate volunteers across the nation during the month of April, many names and stories are being shared about outstanding volunteers.

 We'd like to share the story of one woman who's made a difference - Beth Barlow.  Beth didn't just commit, she gave her whole heart and soul to the girls in her daughter's troop and to the Girl Scout program.  Read more    

 

Recognition for 25+ Year Girl Scouts
Adults, h
ave you been a Girl Scout for 25 years or more and are you attending the Recognition Event on June 2nd? We would like to recognize your Girl Scouting years, both as a girl and as an adult! If you plan on attending the Recognition Event, please complete the Recognition Form   by April 30 to receive your Numeral Guard Pin at the Girl Scouts Recognition event.  Pins can also be purchased in the shop for you to plan your own special celebration if you're not attending the event.

 

Honor our Magic Makers on June 2
Celebrate our girls' and adults' contributions by placing a tribute ad, due today, April 15.   RSVP in the next two weeks for early bird pricing:  $30 adult/$15 girl if postmarked by May 1.

 
Congratulations to Spirit of Volunteerism Award Recipients 

We are proud to congratulate volunteers Ann Crane, Sharon Nuckolls and Collene "Chuck" Anderson on their recognition at the 2013 Spirit of Volunteerism Awards! Catch on to Cadettes - April 19 , April 21  Junior Cadette  

Join us as we showcase the exciting programs and activities that are available for girls as they enter Girl Scouts Cadettes and continue on their Girl Scout path through Ambassadors.

 

Kelp Fest - April 20  Everyone  

Participate in several Girl Scout Gold Award Projects while having a great, fun-filled, educational and free day at Kelpfest 2013! Perform in the Ocean Idol contest, help in a beach cleanup, make ocean-based crafts, explore tide pools and much more!  

   

Cinderella Ballet  - April 20  Everyone   

Special opportunity just for Girl Scouts and their families to see Cinderella, performed by the Inland Pacific Ballet company! After the show the dancers will be available for autographs and photographs.

 

Annie Workshop and Show - April 28 Brownie Junior Cadette Senior Ambassador   

Participate in an interactive workshop and watch a performance of Annie at the Orange County Children's Theater while working towards badges.

 Discover Nursing Night (Date Change!) - May 10 Junior Cadette Senior Ambassador  

Join Saddleback Nursing students for this workshop designed to discover nursing as a career! The workshop will include demonstrations of skills nurses perform, basic physical assessment, hand hygiene/infection control, basic first aid and allergic reaction treatment.

Be Brave- July 22-26   Junior Cadette Camp Scherman
Are you brave enough to swamp (flip) your canoe, take aim at the archery range like Merida, and take the plunge in the swimming pool? Join us for a summer adventure as you live and sleep under a canopy of branches like Katniss, with the stars as your night light. For girls entering grades 4-6.  

Survival Camp- June 25-29 Junior Cadette 
Enjoy the wonders of Camp Scherman and imagine what it would be like to fend for yourself in the wilderness. Sleep under a blanket of stars and let the moon guide you to your campsite in the forest. Practice camping survival skills such as how to build a shelter, fire building, camp cooking, survival games and more! For girls entering grades 4-6, 6-8.
 

 

Backpacking Adventures- July 6-18  Cadette Senior
Live out of your pack as you discover the wilderness around you and experience local peaks in the beautiful San Jacinto mountains! Enjoy breathtaking views as you relax in the fresh air and sleep under the stars. Learn how to cook on a backpacking stove, leave no trace, and more! For girls entering grades 6-9.

Get Moving- July 6-14   Junior Cadette 
Energy puts the sparkle in fireworks, the giddyup in a pony, and the oomph in the everyday. Energize, investigate, and innovate at Camp Scherman and complete the Get Moving! leadership journey for juniors! Find out about the energy all around you at camp
while canoeing, taking aim at archery, or even while hiking!  For girls entering grades 4-6.

Family Camp - Aug 30 - Sept 2  Everyone  
Enjoy a unique and relaxing weekend camp experience with family and friends taking in all of the beauty of camp and its surroundings. Explore wide-open spaces and enjoy staff-planned nature and camp activities for all ages, including swimming, hiking, crafts, games, campfires, archery, and canoeing. Registration is now open for Family Camp.  

 

Journey Retreat - Nov 1-3 Cadette
Take a deep breath and get ready to focus all your senses on the crisp clear air at Camp Scherman! Dive into a weekend full of fun while you experience the air around you and contemplate the city air you left behind. Join other Cadettes as you earn the Aware and Alert awards and get prepared to take action once you get back down the mountain.  

 

Good Eats - Nov 1-3   Everyone
Whip up some marvelous meals and tasty treats at camp and design recipe cards to recreate those yummy eats at home! Have fun in the kitchen, or try out your oven mitts with Dutch oven, and even outdoor grill cooking! In between taste tests, choose from a buffet of camp activities including archery, canoeing and more!  

 

Mom and Me - Nov 15-17 Everyone
Get out of OC and have some mom and daughter fun in the fresh mountain air as you experience the many wonders of Camp Scherman! Get ready for a fun filled weekend of togetherness and memories that will last a lifetime!

While Troop 863 was snowshoeing in Mammoth, they met Jean, a volunteer guide on the cross country trails.  Jean was a Girl Scout herself - she was even featured on the July 1947 cover of the LA Girl Scout magazine!  Volunteer Julianne shared, "I hope our girls will be out caring for the environment, providing public service to the community, and staying in great physical shape in 65 years!"
