Nominate a Girl Scout  for Celebrate Leadership by Apr 29

Celebrate Leadership is our annual fundraising event, held on Nov 1 at the Island Hotel, and we're looking for a few great Girl Scout representatives!  Check out our Top Ten Reasons to Celebrate Leadership for girls.  Selected Girl Scouts will have the opportunity to share their Girl Scout story with 400+ community leaders, receive professional speaking training and coaching, participate in a professional photo shoot with an OC community leader and more!  Nominate a girl today using the fillable nomination form OR the online Celebrate Leadership Nomination Form (for nominator) and Celebrate Leadership Nominee Form (for parent/girl).   Learn more... 

 

Volunteer Recognition Event 

Let's make magic on Sunday, June 2  to honor our volunteers and girls!  Our annual recognition event will Celebrate Our Magic Makers at the Happiest Place on Earth, so register by May 1 for early bird pricing.  Click here  for RSVP, tribute ad, and opportunity basket forms. 

 

Open Positions- Girl Advisors to GSOC Board of Directors 

Are you ready to advocate for Girl Scouts in the community by being a girl advisor to the GSOC Board of Directors? Positions open for high school Girl Scouts who will be Girl Scout Seniors or Ambassadors next fall. More information available soon for how to be a part of this special opportunity for a 1yr. term or more. Must be able to attend board meetings as scheduled, beginning in June.

  Troop and Girl Activities

 Youth Expo - April 12-14 Everyone  

Come down to the OC Fairgrounds and join in excitement of  the 34th Youth Expo "Ham It UP!" an interactive and educational fun fair for all Girl Scout levels.

 

ToGetHer Boating - April 14  Senior Ambassador   

Have you ever wanted to know how to paddle a canoe or a kayak? Row a boat? Sail a sabot? If you answered yes to any of these questions then this is the workshop for you! Water and land based activities will be available for all participants.

Understanding the Native American - April 20  Brownie  

Find out about Native American life through a Native American speaker who will educate the girls about customs and traditions of their way of life. Girls will create art inspired by local Native American art, taste some Native American delicacies and enjoy an authentic Pow-Wow!

 

Gospel Swamp History Festival - April 27  Everyone  

Enjoy live demonstrations, hands-on activities for the whole family and interact with craftsmen from Orange County Blacksmith Guild, local Quilters' Guild, Spinners & Weavers Guild, and Victorian Tea Society.

GS destinations Scoop Nights - May 2 & 7  Cadette Senior Ambassador  

Girl Scout destinations are unique trips for girls to apply for as an individual to travel with other Girl Scouts from all over the country.  %th grade Juniors through Ambassadors and their parents are invited to find out more about what destinations are and how to participate. Application process begins in fall 2013 for following summer and winter. Trips are for Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors.

 

Spring Faire and Butterfly House Opening at ENC  - May 5  Everyone  

Enjoy Orange County's only butterfly house, make crafts with troop 985, find out about native plants, watch a birds of prey presentation and more! Excellent field trip idea for any of the daisy leadership journeys!

Brownie Bash - May 31 - June 2  Brownie  

Join other Brownie troops to camp out, learn new skills, play, sing, and do crafts. Work on the Bugs badge (Brownie Legacy badge) and get a visit from some of our feathered friends (Friday evening presentation by the Orange County Bird of Prey Center).

 

Justice Journey - starts June 26  Ambassador   

What does environmental justice mean to you? Be an advocate in your community as you team up with other girls on the Justice Leadership journey. Come join the fun and find out how you can make a difference! Register here

Open House - June 23  Everyone
This is a great opportunity for troops, families and friends of camp and Girl Scouting to to tour the camp, meet the staff and ask questions. Staff-led activities include canoeing, and crafts. You can also do a self-led tour through camp. For more information regarding Open House, including driving directions to Camp Scherman, email Erin Johnson

Swimming and Swamping- July 6-10, July 22-26 Junior Cadette swamping
Experience a morning "polar bear" swim, swamp your canoe in the lake and learn how to get back in, backstroke in the pool under the nighttime stars. For girls entering grades 4-6.  

Starry Nights - July 14-18, July 26-31 Junior Cadette
Stargazing and folklore will fill your evenings as you experience camps primitive area. During the day, plan exciting adventures with your camp friends like swimming, archery, canoeing and so much more!  For girls entering grades 4-6, 6-8.   

Brownie Blast - July 22-26  Brownie camp girls
Our fun loving camp counselors will teach you new songs and games to play all day in the mountains. Meet new friends and have tons of fun swimming in the pool, canoeing in the lake. For girls entering grades 2-3.

Me and My Guy - June 14-16  Everyone
Pack your car and head up to the mountains for a special weekend just for dads or "special guy" and your Girl Scout! Aim your arrow at the balloons on the archery rang, ace across the lake in a canoe, plan a silly skit with your guy...you'll be amazed at what you can get him to do! 

 

Spend a Day at Camp Scherman- Oct 19  Everyone spend a day at camp scherman
Come join us for a day full of fun and adventure for the entire family. Canoe together on our lake, aim for the bulls eye and pick some tasty treats from our flourishing garden. Put on your walking shoes and pack up the family for a day of fun and family togetherness.  

Survivor Camp - Oct 11-13 Junior Cadette Senior Ambassador
Want to brush up on your camping and learn some basic survival skills? This is the weekend adventure for you! Practice setting up a tent, lashing, knot tying and fire building.  

Starry Nights - Oct. 11-13   Junior Cadette Senior Ambassador
Experience the wonders of camp after the sun goes down and enjoy a wide range of activities under the starry sky while you explore stargazing and folklore. Use your night vision to hike with the light of the moon as your guide and find constellations while floating in the pool. 


Volunteer Training 

Looking forward to an active Spring and Summer for your troop?  You may need to have a First Aid/CPR certified adult along on your outing.  Please see Girl Activity Checkpoints (Forms & Docs tab, then Safety, then Girl Activity Checkpoints) and our Outdoor Progression Chart (Training & Recognition tab, then Courses/Workshops) on the Volunteer Network to find out!  Our next First Aid/CPR class is offered on April 15th and 17th from 6-10pm at Irvine Headquarters.

Have you heard the news? We're now taking orders for Camp Care Packages! Surprise your camper with a Camp Care package and personalized note! When you order yours, include your note in the comments section at checkout, or submit an order form and we'll deliver it to her while she's away at Camp Scherman! We also have a brand new birthday selection of items, like sequin sleep masks, a "Birthday Girl" tiara and an autographed "It's My Birthday" pillow!

Cadette Troop 778 delivered 603 boxes of Girl Scout Cookie Share cookies that were donated by generous GS cookie customers to military personnel at the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station. The cookies will be enjoyed by personnel and loaded on to boats that dock at the naval station.  Check out more photos on the Naval Weapons Station's Facebook Page.
