Girl Scout Cookies in the News

It's Girl Scout Cookie Time!  We are excited to share recent stories from the OC Register about our new Mango Creme cookie, the Cookie Rally and the Mega Drop.  And OC Family interviewed a current Girl Scout and a Girl Scout Alumna who developed important skills through the Girl Scout Cookie Program!  Share your story about a great Girl Scout with a big goal for cookie sales by emailing rhack@ocregister.com with the subject line Girl Scout Cookies - her story may appear in a community paper!

  
Congratulations to 2012 Girl Scout Silver Award Recipientssilver award
The Girl Scout Silver Award is the highest award a Girl Scout Cadette can earn and these girls have shown that they are organized, determined, and dedicated to improving their communities.  View 2012 Girl Scout Silver Award Recipients. Do you know a Girl Scout who is completing her Silver Award in 2013? Send her correctly spelled name, Troop number and Advisor's name to Heather Madrigal by March 15 to ensure that she receives certificates and congratulatory letters from the Governor and other dignitaries in time for special award ceremonies this Spring.

 

Girl Scouts Partners with OC Restaurant Week

In honor of the largest girl-led business in the world, a few select restaurants will be offering delicious desserts featuring the brand new Mango Creme cookie during OC Restaurant Week , including Slater's 50/50 in Anaheim Hills and Huntington Beach and Woody's Wharf. Be sure to check out OC Restaurant Week from Feb 24 - March 2! 

 

Celebrate Leadership Call for Nominations   

Calling all Girl Scouts in grade K-12  - we want you to represent Girl Scouts and illustrate who we are, what we do, and why it matters!  elected girls will be expected to participate in 3 rehearsals, a special event, and the Celebrate Leadership event on November 1.  Nomination forms are due April 1, 2013.

 

Nominations for Girl Awards Due March 12th 

Girl Award Nominations and Girl Award Request Forms are available online and are due on March 12 by 6:00 pm.  The Outstanding Senior Girl Scout Recognition, Juliette Low Spirit of Girl Scouting Award, and Girl Scout Take Action Award are presented to girls as a surprise at the annual Girl Scout Recognition Event on June 2, 2013.  Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors can be nominated by their Advisor, Service Unit Manager, or other Girl Scout adult volunteer OR by a sister Girl Scout Ambassador.  In addition, Graduating Seniors and Girl Scout Gold Award recipients will be recognized and Ten Year Awards and Bridge to Adult Pins will be presented.

Girl Scout Gold Award Portrait Days 

Recipients of the prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award are recognized with a formal portrait displayed on the Girl Scout Gold Award Honor Wall at the Council Headquarters in Irvine.  All 2012-2013 Girl Scout Gold Award recipients are encouraged to schedule an appointment for their Scout Gold Award portrait. 

  

Girl Scout Gold Award Project Proposal Support Meetings

Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors are invited to drop in anytime between 2-4 PM to ask questions about their initial project proposal, check in with members of the Gold Award Support Group and prepare for their interview.  Check out the schedule of meeting dates or find out more about the Girl Scouts' Highest awards, including the Girl Scout Bronze, Silver and Gold Award.

  • Use the Success Made Simple Cookie Tip Sheet with your Order Card to keep track of customers, record Cookie Share sales and take orders for future delivery.
  • Create Cookie Bundles for Valentine's Day, birthday gifts and more using ribbon and Cookie Bundle tags available on the Volunteer Network.
  • Provide each customer with a Thank You Card and personalize it with instructions on how to contact you when they want more cookies.

Parents Can Help At Cookie Booths - Here's How!

Ask your Troop Leader or Troop Cookie Manager to help you complete the Adult Requirements and become a registered Girl Scout member. The requirements include a volunteer application, background screening, the Responsible Adult Safety Briefing for Booth Sales and the Volunteering for Girl Scout Series & Events online training (password is volunteer).

 

Cookie Stands, Rolling Sales & Booth Sales...Oh my!

Girls may conduct "lemonade style" cookie stands on their own property and sell cookies door-to-door in residential neighborhoods with parent's supervision.  Selling in any other location requires special permission to ensure we abide by local and city requirements. Refer to your Family Guide for cookie program information and contact your Troop Cookie Manager with questions.

Girl Scouts Sing Along - Feb 19

In honor of World Thinking Day 2013, all Girl Scout volunteers, staff, members, girls, and friends are invited to SING, SHARE and LISTEN in a virtual "Campfire Sing Along" webinar with Melinda Caroll on Feb 19 at 11 am. Participants will learn and sing 7 international songs (one for each level of Girl Scouts - Daisy through Ambassador plus one for adults) with learning tips and free lyrics to share.

World Thinking Day 2013 Everyone  

Girl Scouts and Girl Guides will celebrate World Thinking Day on February 22 with the theme "Together We Can Save Children's Lives."  Girls can earn the World Thinking Day Award found in The Girl's Guide to Girl Scouting by completing one or more level specific activities.

Girl Scouts Celebrate Black History Month

We are proud to celebrate the diversity and culture of African Americans -aross the USA and beyond.  During Black History Month, we honor our National Honorary President of Girl Scouts of the USA, First Lady Michelle Obama and African American Girl Scout leaders and volunteers who make a difference in our council and the community all year long.  Using Girl Scout national program resources, Girl Scouts can celebrate Black History Month as part of their leadership journeys and skill building badge activities.  Explore level specific program activities

Nationwide "Sister Quilt" for Newtown Quilt Square Design Contest

Girl Scouts of Orange County is seeking quilt square designs for a special nationwide "Sister Quilt." The "Sister Quilt" will feature one square representing each council across the country to show support for the troops and families of the eight Girl Scout Daisies who lost their lives in December in Newtown, CT.  Girls can submit one design.  See contest guidelines -deadline is 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 28.

Calling all Seniors and Amabassadors- come join us at Newport Dunes to learn and experience boating and nautical skills! Have you ever wanted to know how to paddle a canoe or a kayak? Row a boat? Sail a sabot? If you answered yes to any of these questions then this is the workshop for you!
