Thursday, November 22, 2012 will be the 86th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC. With more than 3 million people lining the streets to watch the parade, where will you park?
PARADE ROUTE
Starting at 9am, the parade begins at 77th St and Central Park West, then heads down Central Park West to Columbus Circle at 59th St. The marchers will turn left (east) on 59th St for 2 blocks, then turn right to go south on 6th Avenue until 34th St.
At 34th St, the parade will turn right (west) and end at Broadway right in front of Macy's Herald Square.
Note: you cannot watch the parade on 6th Ave between 34th - 38th St OR on 34th St between Broadway - 7th Ave.
WHERE TO PARK
As much as we want to help people find great parking, it's probably best to take public transportation if you can to avoid the hassles of NYC traffic and over-priced parking. But if you do want to drive in to NYC:
Street Parking
You can park on the street for free, if you can find a space. NYC Alternate Side Parking Regulations are suspended on Thanksgiving Day, but you still have to obey the No Standing, No Parking, and No Stopping signs.
Garage Parking
Most NYC parking garages near the parade route will be charging an Event Rate, which will be about $40 - $55.
To find less expensive NYC parking garages:
- Park farther West near West End Ave, 10th Ave, 11th Ave
- Park on the East Side, anywhere from 5th Ave - 1st Ave, then walk across Central Park or through midtown Manhattan to see the parade along 6th Ave.
- Look for an Early Bird Special rate of $10 - $20 on the East Side from E 30th - E 90th Sts. You'll find better rates closer to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Aves. You have to be in the NYC parking garage by 9 or 10am and must leave by 5 - 7pm. Check with the garage.
- Park in Midtown Manhattan, where the garages are looking for business.
- Check out the coupons from Central Parking and QuikPark for any 6, 12 or 24 hours. But make sure they apply on Thanksgiving.
