Coach Joe's Corner

Joe's Training Tip:

Most runners are slow to rebound from hard days, and one big session each week is about all the midpack finisher can tolerate. Recovery doesn't require complete rest (although at least one day off a week is highly recommended). You can recover while still satisfying the urge to run by running easily. Stay well within the comfort zone on easy days. For experienced runners this might mean comfortably paced runs of up to an hour. Newer marathoners shouldn't feel guilty about doing as little as a half-hour.

Tips come from Joe Henderson's book, Marathon Training. Joe has served as an adviser to the Eugene Marathon since its inception, and he coaches local marathoners for this and other races. (Michael Lebowitz photo)
