Runner's World calls Eugene Marathon 'Best of the Best'

The Eugene Marathon was recently named a 'Best of the Best' race by Runner's World in the January 2013 edition. Bart Yasso, Runner's World Chief Running Officer and finisher of more than 100 marathons, praised TrackTown USA's only marathon.  "There's such a spirit in this place...a go-to event for speedy times."  Catch Yasso's praise and the complete 2013 Marathon Guide in January's edition on newsstands now.  >>Join the conversation

Coach Joe's Corner

Joe's Training Tip:

View the marathon as the Mount Everest of running. It's a peak that every runner dreams of scaling at least once. You too can stand at the top, but not without a long and well-planned climb. If you can race as little as 10 kilometers now, you can tack on the remaining 20 miles with a few more months of training. Don't think you must turn over your whole life to this training. Your long run will become much longer than before, but you'll run normally - or even slightly easier than usual - the other days.

Tips come from Joe Henderson's book, Marathon Training. Joe has served as an adviser to the Eugene Marathon since its inception, and he coaches local marathoners for this and other races. (Michael Lebowitz photo)
