Do coffee enemas really make a difference to one's long-term health, especially when it comes to healing from cancer (or better yet, avoiding cancer)? And, if so, how?

Many people use coffee enemas and report that they feel great because of taking coffee enemas. At the Optimal Health Center, we get calls daily from people who swear by taking regular coffee enemas in order to optimize their health.

First, let's look at the science that points to the increased effectiveness of taking therapeutic agents through the colon versus through the mouth:

Colonic antigen administration induces significantly higher humoral levels of colonic and vaginal IgA, and serum IgG compared to oral administration

Now, let's explore the therapeutic benefits of coffee:

(1) Potential chemoprotective effects of the coffee components kahweol and cafestol palmitates

Given that ample scientific evidence exists that the colon is a more effective delivery system than the mouth for many therapeutic agents, the coffee enema ought to be a more effective delivery system of kahweol and cafestol palmitates than the mouth.

(2) Enhancement of the chemoprotective enzymes glucuronosyl transferase and glutathione transferase in specific organs of the rat by the coffee components kahweol and cafestol

This research shows that kahweol and cafestol palmitates treatment leads to a wide spectrum of increases in phase II detoxification enzymes, especially in the liver and kidneys, which may thus not only contribute to local protection but also to anti-carcinogenesis in distant, less stimulated organs.

(3) Coffee intake and risk of colorectal cancer among Chinese in Singapore: the Singapore Chinese Health Study

This research points to the protective benefits of coffee enemas against toxins.

Now, some research pointing to specifically using coffee enemas, along with other lifestyle changes:

(1) Surviving against all odds: analysis of 6 case studies of patients with cancer who followed the Gerson therapy

(While this study is not conclusive or focused strictly on coffee enemas, it does show how little research has been done on using coffee enemas therapeutically, and that because of the number of people including coffee enemas in their healing therapies, the medical community is now paying attention and spending money on research. This is an extremely exciting beginning!)

(2) The cure of advanced cancer by diet therapy: a summary of 30 years of clinical experimentation

This is a summary from Dr. Max Gerson about his therapy to heal cancer, including but not limited to coffee enemas. He states, "Caffeine enemas cause dilation of bile ducts, which facilitates excretion of toxic cancer breakdown products by the liver and dialysis of toxic products from blood across the colonic wall."
