Introduction to Social and Emotional Learning
The Tribes TLC® Process - Online Course
Description
The Tribes TLC online course is offered for professional development. It is intended to acquaint the participant with the basic tenets of the Tribes Learning Community® (Tribes TLC) process to support knowledge and/or experience with Tribes. The course is designed to actively involve you in the www.tribes.com learning community as well as inform and intrigue your perception and connection with the research-based components of Tribes, in your role as educator.
This online class is appropriate for individuals who have experience with Tribes TLC, as well as those who do not.
Student Learning Outcomes
Participants will
- Engage* in reading and learning about the research-based components of the developmental process of Tribes TLC
- Explore* the relationship between 21st Century learning attributes and the process of Tribes TLC
- Explain* the relevance of sound educational practices and the Tribes TLC process through online project-based learning experiences
- Elaborate* on a component of the Tribes TLC process
- Evaluate* personal and professional attitudes through reflective practice.

Toronto Star Teacher Award 2012:
Tribes concept at heart of teacher's excellence
Congratulations to Pamela Feldberg, lifelong educator in Toronto, who recently won honorable mention in the 2012 Toronto Star Teacher Awards, and was featured in the Toronto Star! As a Tribes trained teacher, Pamela credits Tribes as having a profound and beneficial influence on her students, classroom, and career! The Tribes concept is the foundation of Feldberg's teaching style at York Region District School Board's German Mills Public School. "Tribes touches on the core aspects of mutual respect, honesty and integrity and translates into lessons that incorporate all parts of the curriculum at once." We are pleased that Pamela has found the Tribes process to be meaningful and valuable in her work as an educator. It sounds like her students (and parents) are very lucky indeed! Using Tribes for
GATE Programs

In my district, our GATE students are released from the regular classroom for 6 days each year. There is a content focus for each day. Because we are pulling from 5 schools, the first day is a TRIBES day. This sets the tone for the program, refreshes the agreements, and we put kids in their new tribe for the remainder of the 5 days.
