JOBBERSWORLD...MARKET INTELLIGENCE FOR INTELLIGENT MARKETERS...

The Details of Decreases

As noted in last week's issue of JobbersWorld, in less than a week after the announced price decreases on base oils, two majors announced price decreases on finished lubricants. And now a third major does the same.

The first was Phillips66 on November 9, 2012, Phillips66 announced that effective November 12, 2012 it will decrease prices for most finished lubricants by $0.30 a gallon, and $0.02 a pound on grease. Products exempt from this decrease include certain fully synthetic HDEO, ATF, gear oils and industrial lubricants, as well as private label products.

This was followed by an announcement by Chevron of a general posted price decrease for its lubricants, gear oils and greases by up to 4% for most SKU's. The effective date of this decrease is December 10, 2012. It should be noted that commercial and Industrial synthetic products, coolants and fuel additives are excluded from the decrease.

These decreases are followed by CITGO announcing it will implement a finished lubricant price decrease for marketers in the CITGO, MileMaster and Mystik brands. This decrease, which takes effect December 16, will average $0.30 a gallon on lubricants and $0.02 a pound on grease. This decrease, however, does not include CLARION white oils, water glycol products and process oils.

In addition to the majors, Amalie announced today that with the exception of its Greased Lightning branded automotive chemicals, Amalie Oil Company will reduce the price for all its oils and chemicals, that are shipped on or after November 26, 2012, by $0.32 per gallon. In addition, it will reduce grease prices by $0.04 a pound.

Fire at Nexeo Solutions Plant in Garland, TX

A two alarm fire broke out at a Nexeo Solutions plant in Garland, TX on November 16th. Whereas initial news reports (understandably due to the prominently displayed Valvoline logo on one of the tanks at the site of the fire) said the fire was at a Valvoline plant, it turns out the blaze was instead at the Nexeo Solutions plant.

For those unfamiliar with Nexeo, the company is a leading supplier of distributed chemical products and services including chemicals, composites, thermoplastics, and environmental services. Ashland Distribution announced March 31, 2011 that it had closed the sale of its global distribution business, known as Ashland Distribution, to Nexeo Solutions, LLC, an affiliate of TPG Capital, for a purchase price of approximately $979 million in cash.

So whereas the Valvoline logo was shown with flames dancing nearby on virtually every television channel in Texas on Friday of last week, the fire was at the Nexeo plant. Further, the good news is that there were no immediate reports of injuries and the blaze, as bad as it looked, was apparently contained within the tank farm dykes.

JobbersWorld Thanks Corrigan Oil and Others Who Helped

As you may know, JobbersWorld is headquartered in central NJ. We along with many in this area were hit hard by Hurricane Sandy and the nor'easter that followed.

On a personal note, JobbersWorld, and its staff, had no
power or Internet service for a week. And on top of that, a tree fell on my son's brand new car. Further, we had to wait in line for many hours to get gas at the few stations open.

But as they say, it could have been worse. Further, bad times brings out the best in people and we saw some of that coming from our industry.

Corrigan Oil Co. from of Brighton, Michigan is amongst one of the companies in our industry that stepped up to offer support.

Waiting in Line for Gas in Edison, NJ

Corrigan Oil Company has been actively transporting and distributing fuels in efforts to provide relief on the East Coast. Corrigan is working with four emergency services companies in the area in order to provide assistance for over a dozen companies with urgent fuel needs.

The fuel is being transported to New York & New Jersey cities from Michigan. This fuel has and will provide fuel for various emergency support equipment, emergency vehicles and local businesses with emergency needs in the area. The equipment being fueled is helping to expedite the relief process along the East Coast.

Corrigan Oil Drivers are cycling back and forth, from Michigan to the East Coast, supplying fuel in a timely manner. Seven trucks and ten Corrigan employees have been dispatched for the duration of this recovery. The first trucks were sent on November 2nd and will remain in the region until December 15th. Corrigan employees are staying throughout the Thanksgiving holiday.

The trucks are equipped to dispense fuel into most containers, ranging from, large tanks to small gas cans and vehicles. This unique ability to dispense fuel from large haulers is allowing fuel to be delivered in any fashion, to meet those challenging needs. Corrigan drivers are working extended hours to continuously haul to and from Michigan.

"I'm just happy our company is prepared and equipped to help with these kinds of disasters. We have a great staff of people to make this happen," Corrigan President Mike Corrigan said.

In addition to the devastation of the super storm, Sandy, a nor'easter hitting parts of Northeast U.S. with heavy snow is causing more damage to the East Coast. With complications of the snow, efforts to continue fueling and transporting will persist.

A sampling of the cities Corrigan fuel efforts have touched in New Jersey and New York; Berkeley Heights, NJ, Linden, NJ, Seweran, NJ, Kearny, NJ, Union, NJ, Wharton, NJ, Maplewood, NJ, Middlesex, NJ, Carteret, NJ, Newark, NJ, Queens, NY, Long Island, NY, Lynbrook, NY, and New York, NY.

Corrigan Oil Company is family owned and operated, and has become a staple in the communities they serve throughout Michigan. Corrigan has locations in Brighton, Whitmore Lake, Napoleon, Milan and Detroit.   Established in 1958, Corrigan has grown to be a part of the industrial, residential and commercial marketplaces, focuses on the highest quality services to their customers.
