Dos & Don'ts
"Should I give my office administrator a company credit card?"

4 Attributes of a Great Admin
One would think it would be easy to hire good administrative help, yet just the opposite is true. Administrative roles can be one of the most difficult positions to hire. Four attributes most desired in administrative roles are:
- Reliable
- Proactive
- Results-oriented
- Technology savvy
Yet ask yourself, if you had all four attributes, would you not also be good at other jobs? People with these qualities have other job opportunities that may offer more challenge and more pay, thus reducing the number of quality administrative candidates.

#1 Reason For Firing an Admin
Employers often put up with poor performance of administrative help a lot longer than they should. Poor computer skills, excessive sick days, and lack of initiative are just a few common issues. Generally, supervisors hope that most problems will go away or they just tend to look the other way.
Nevertheless, the one thing that should not be tolerated for long is a "bad attitude". A bad attitude is like a virus that could affect just about everyone in the company. If you have a "bad apple" in your company, best to let this person go quickly. Then hire someone with a "can do" attitude.

Safari Interview Tip Observe the demeanor and communication style of an office administrative candidate during the interview. Their style in which they present themselves will be much like the way they may interact with your clients, vendors, and team members.

Answer to Today's Dos & Don'ts
"Should I give my office administrator a company credit card?"
Answer:
There is no right or wrong in this situation. However, no matter how trustworthy your office administrator may be, always have a clear written policy on what can be purchased using the company credit card. Set dollar limits that require your approval and require that all receipts are submitted. And, be sure to limit the credit line on the card to an amount that protects your risk.
