Principal's Message

Hello Stanley Families-

As we enter our final week of school and things swirl to warp speed, I wanted to share with you some of our impressive highlights from this school year.  There have been so many exciting events and accomplishments, and I want to thank Stanley PTA and LPIE for their ongoing support of the Stanley experience, both in the classroom and throughout our campus.  We also could not have done all of this without the incredible, dedicated staff who are truly second to none in their work with creating such a fantastic place for kids.

So with that, a brief and very incomplete list of some highlights in 2015-2016:  The Year of Making a Difference...
  • Stanley's Block Schedule was launched and successfully implemented. Our data shows widespread approval and more opportunity for deeper learning every week!
  • Our One Book One School program grew  to a new level with the entire school reading together, incorporating a podcast, canned food drive and other activities.  Malala's powerful story aligned with our yearly theme of To make a difference Be the difference...
  • Technology also grew in significant ways, as all English/History teachers got Chromebook Carts and all staff deepened their use of Google tools and other technology to change the ways we learn and teach.
  • Stanley deepened our work with Writer's and Reader's workshop with more teachers attending training in New York and collaborating closely with our coaches and across grade levels...
  • "STEAM" programs continued to thrive as Robotics, Woodshop, "WiredCats" and "Wood B. Steminists" groups were  recognized by local news agencies for increasing opportunities for all kids in 21st century learning...
  • Local hero Steve Wampler visited campus, and Kathleen McGough was recognized as Teacher of the Year for the California League of Middle Schools.
  • Stanley Jazz Messengers performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival and is the #1 middle school jazz band in the U.S. according to Downbeat Magazine!
  • Marcello Severo was a  National Award Winner for  his PTA Reflections piano composition
  • We had another banner year with Stanley Athletics, with hundreds of kids participating, and earning league championships in Volleyball, Football, Soccer, and Track and Field.
I certainly look forward to more highlights during our final week of celebrations and events. I am so grateful to be able to work in such a vibrant and caring community where we put our students at the heart of our work!

Please enjoy a relaxing and restful summer and we look forward to seeing you in August!

PTA PRESIDENT'S LETTER
Dear Stanley Parents,

We have reached the final week and the last Wildcat Weekly of the school year!  Below are some important dates for you to be aware of in the coming months.  Do yourself a favor and mark your calendar today.

1. In July, look for the Stanley summer mailer in your mailbox with important information about residency re-verification, registration requirements and Wildcat Day.

2. 6th Grade and New Family Orientation will be on Tuesday, August 16, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PMStudent photos will be taken.  Parents will be encouraged to stay for a Welcome to Stanley coffee hosted by the PTA and LPIE.

3. Wildcat Day will be Friday, August 19th, 2:00-6:00 PM.
New this year:
- Residency re-verification for everyone to be completed BEFORE Wildcat Day
- Full class schedules will be given out
- PE jerseys will now be distributed in PE class
- ID cards and planners will now be distributed during the first week of school
- We are no longer selling school supply kits

****All these changes will be detailed in the summer mailer****

You might ask, "Why do I need to go to Wildcat Day?"  It is very important to attend Wildcat Day so you can turn in necessary forms, have your student's photo taken (for 7th & 8th graders), visit PTA and LPIE tables, purchase Wildcat Spirit Wear, visit our hot lunch vendor, Choicelunch, and, last but not least, receive your student's full schedule.

4. School starts on Monday, August 22.

Thank you to the final list of chairpersons for amazing Stanley programs and events.  We truly value your time and effort.

HOT LUNCH SURVEY

Tell us what you think about Hot Lunch at Stanley

Whether or not your family orders hot lunch, we'd like to know what you think about our current program.

Please take a moment to do a brief survey.

The information we gather will help us determine the best hot lunch program for Stanley next year. Thank you!
HOT LUNCH VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Want to help on the Stanley campus next year?
Help us serve Hot Lunch!

See your newly minted 6th grader -- or older student - at Stanley!

Stanley's HOT LUNCH program needs several dozen volunteers to make sure kids have time to eat and relax. This is a great volunteer opportunity and a way to help the PTA, too.

You'll spend less than 1 hour every 2 weeks, and get Choicelunch credits. You will also work with other volunteers and be trained so it is not hard.

Email: julieannschmit@gmail.com if you would like to volunteer. She sets up an annual schedule so you will always know your day. There will be subs for days you cannot make it.

If you work Monday or Friday, the time commitment is basically 12:00-12:45 PM.

If you work Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, the times are roughly
11:20-12:00 PM.

Thanks, and see you at Stanley.
