PTA PRESIDENT'S LETTER
| |
| Dear Stanley Parents,
Are you feeling as busy as I am? The end of the school year seems to move even faster every year! I hope you are looking forward to Open House on May 25. Join us for the International Concert at 6:00 PM (everyone is welcome), followed by Open House at 7:00 pm. I always look forward to walking through the hallways at Stanley with my child, talking to his teachers, visiting the classrooms, viewing all learning and projects on display, seeing familiar faces...all of this at our own pace. As with last week, I would like to thank our next group of Super Stanley Volunteers. Without our chairpersons, we could not function. We do a lot at Stanley -- we have 38 different program/event areas -- so thank you for stepping up and taking a lead! Help us give a round of applause to
Super Stanley Volunteers, Part 2:
Health Screening - Mayada Innenberg
Hot Lunch Program - Julie Schmidt
Cultural Fair - Iris Karsh

MEASURE C
| |
|
Let's Invest in OUR Community
Did you realize that, by law, all Measure C dollars must be spent on the list of identified projects for OUR Lafayette schools? Money cannot get redirected away from our school district. What our community puts in to Measure C is what it will get out. That is one reason why the Contra Costa Taxpayers Association (CoCo Tax), which holds up examples of good governance, endorsed Measure C. In particular, CoCo Tax cited Measure C's sensible, no-frills proposal as well as the Lafayette School District's excellent financial management track record as good reasons to support Measure C. Maintaining the quality and safety of our schools is a good investment for ALL of us. Great schools protect our high property values and help make Lafayette such an enduringly desirable place to live. The need is real and the time is now. Vote YES on C on the June 7th ballot...to repair and renew our Lafayette schools! |

INDEPENDENT STUDY/ABSENCES
| |
| Each time your child misses school for any reason (sick, vacation, others) the Lafayette School District loses $51 per day in revenues from the state. Attendance in school is best for your child's education. If your child is ill, keep him/her home until well enough to return to school. If you must take your child on a trip for 5 days or more, please notify the office so that they may provide you with an Independent Study packet (please give the school at least 2 weeks notice for an Independent Study request) to help him/her keep up with schoolwork while away. Doing so is a WIN-WIN scenario. Your child keeps pace with the class and is considered PRESENT on those days (NOT ABSENT) for State funding purposes. However, for absences less than five days or absences greater than 5 days without a completed Independent Study, your child misses invaluable instruction time and the state withholds funding from the District at $51/day. The District strongly recommends that trips and vacations be scheduled during non-school days. Thank you!
