What is "Wildcat of the Week"?
Each week, one student from each grade level is chosen by a faculty committee and is selected as a Wildcat of the Week based on his/her academic efforts and demonstration of character as it relates to our Six Pillars - Trustworthiness, Responsibility, Respect, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship.  These student role models will be further honored by participating in a special event at the end of the year.  It is the intent of this award to encourage all students to demonstrate Stanley Spirit through positive character.

PARENT EDUCATION

MINDSET: GROWING RESILIENT KIDS

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 23RD 6:30PM- 8:00PM

(following the PTA General Meeting)

STANLEY LIBRARY

Please join the Stanley PTA and Principal David Schrag in welcoming Stanley parent and Stanford Professor Jennifer Aaker, as she speaks about Cultivating a Growth Mindset:One Small Change at a Time.

Cultivating a growth mindset is a worthy goal, but how to do it is often more elusive. Dr. Aaker draws on the research from social psychology to illuminate developing a growth mindset that leads to creative, motivated and resilient young people. So how do we cultivate a growth mindset at home, to echo that used in our schools?  A seemingly simple question, but the answer is often elusive. In this talk, we'll explore how to create environments of happiness...one small change at a time.

A question and answer opportunity with Jennifer and David will follow the presentation.

Stanley Jazz
2, 5, 1 -  2, 5, 1  then the root. . .

Is it math or is it jazz? Yes. Both. There's a lot of numbers and patterns going on in the band room on Messenger mornings.  It's like learning algebraic expressions except instead of letters standing in for numbers, numbers stand in for letters, which stand in for notes.

2, 5, 1 is the most popular chord progression in jazz. If you want to hear it in different scales and on different instruments drop by the band room some morning. If you want to keep up - don't forget your pencil.  Downbeat at 7:20am, free Peet's coffee, never a line.

TEN GOOD REASONS YOU SHOULD FOLLOW LPIE ON

TWITTER AND FACEBOOK

  1. It's 2014.

  2. You'll spot friends and kids you know in some great photos.

  3. You'll help prove that Lafayette parents are hip and cool enough to understand how social media works.

  4. You'll get updates on how your kids and our schools are benefitting from your LPIE donation in short, easy-to-digest snippets.

  5. You will instantly rid yourself of any FOMO that may be bothering you. (If you don't know what FOMO stands for, you can probably ask your kids!)

  6. The posts will (often) be funny or interesting and very rarely will they be boring.

  7. With over 3000 families in our Lafayette schools, we should be able to get more likes than the Funny Cat Videos page.

  8. You'll never again miss an important occasion like a parent party, school concert or art fair.

  9. You will feel good about being an engaged, aware participant in our community.

  10. C'mon. It's 2014.
