3 Million Bond For Man Accused of Shooting at Darien Walmart

WHEATON - DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin and Darien Interim Chief of Police Greg Thomas announced today that bond has been set for a Downers Grove man accused of shooting another man at a Walmart store located in Darien. Bradley Morris, 19 (d.o.b. 12/8/1995) of 1037 Palmer Street, appeared in Bond Court this morning where Judge Richard Russo set bond at at $3 million with 10% to apply.

On December 3, 2015, at approximately 5:40 p.m., officers with the Darien Police Department responded to a call of shots fired in the Walmart store located on 75th Street. Upon their arrival, officers gathered evidence and spoke to witnesses. It is alleged shortly before the officers' arrival there was a verbal altercation in the store between Morris and his victim. It is further alleged that the altercation turned physical at which time Morris pulled a gun and shot four times at his victim, striking him once in the back of his right shoulder. It is further alleged that following the shooting, Morris fled the scene. An investigation into the shooting led authorities to Morris, who was apprehended on December 5 at a bus station in Chicago as he attempted to board a bus bound for Florida. The injury sustained by the victim in this case was not life-threatening and he is expected to make a full recovery.

"I would like to thank the Darien Police Department, the U.S. Marshall's Office and the Felony Investigative Assistance Team whose outstanding efforts led to a man who allegedly thought nothing of firing a weapon in a crowded store during the busiest shopping season of the year," Berlin said. "Thankfully, no innocent bystanders were struck by an errant bullet allegedly fired by Mr. Morris. I would also like to thank Assistant State's Attorney Kristin Johnston for her extended efforts these past few days."

"I too, would like to thank all the first responders from Dairen as well as so many surrounding jurisdictions who worked to restore order promptly," Thomas said. "Additionally, I extend my appreciation to FIAT and the States Attorney's Office who conducted an appropriate investigation in order to hold Morris accountable."

In all, Morris has been charged with one count of Attempt First Degree Murder (Class X Felony), one count of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm (Class X Felony) and one count of Unlawful Use of a Weapon (Class 4 Felony). His next court appearance is scheduled for January 4, 2015, in front of Judge Liam Brennan.

Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant's guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government's burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
