Ward 2 Town Hall Meeting

Please join Ward 2 Alderman Tina Beilke for a Town Hall Meeting on July 22 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm at the Indian Prairie Library, 401 Plainfield Rd. This is an opportunity to hear about what is new in town, including the 75th St. and Cass Avenue development projects.  Post-development drawings will be set up for your viewing.

 

This will also be an open forum to talk with your Alderman and allow one on one discussion with any of the other City officials in attendance.  Coffee and doughnuts will be served.

Backflow Survey Mailed to Residents

A questionnaire was mailed with the recent water bills in respect to back flow prevention. BSI is the company that is managing the record data base for the City of Darien. The survey is mandated by the EPA and a survey of this nature needs to be completed by residents every two years.

Warning on I-Pass Scam

The Illinois Tollway is advising I-PASS customers to disregard erroneous emails being sent from "E-ZPass Collection Agency."  This phishing scam uses the E-ZPass logo and claims that recipients owe money for missed tolls. No I-PASS accounts have been compromised as a result of this scam. The Illinois Tollway advises I-PASS customers to delete any email titled "In arrears for driving on toll road" or "Payment for driving on toll road" that arrives on E-ZPass letterhead. The Tollway is monitoring the situation closely and will work with the E-ZPass Group to keep customers informed of any further developments

2014 Concrete Replacement Program - Deadline Extended
In conjunction with the street replacement program, the City of Darien is again offering reduced pricing to residents interested in replacing their sidewalks, driveways and aprons.  Suburban Concrete was awarded the 2014 bid.  

 

Resident wishing to replace their driveways should call Suburban Concrete directly at 847-837-8805, and inform them you are a Darien resident.  Suburban Concrete will invoice you for the work.

 

Residents wishing to replace the sidewalk, apron or depress their driveway curb should call City Hall at 630-353-8102.  The City will invoice you for this work.  For pricing please visit our website.   

 

The deadline to participate in this years program has been extended to July 31. 
 
OTHER GOVERNMENT NEWS AND EVENTS
DuPage County Resurfacing Cass Avenue 

DuPage County will be resurfacing Cass Avenue from Plainfield Road to I-55 sometime this month.  The work will be done under traffic with no permanent lane closures anticipated.

DuPage County 75th Street Improvements  

DuPage County construction on the 75th Street improvements has begun.  The construction schedule  is available on the County website.  The City of Darien will post updates on our website  as they become available.

Darien Chamber "Shop Local Shop Darien"

The Darien Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce their Shop Local Shop Darien Campaign. We encourage residents to support Darien Chamber businesses that display the Shop Local Shop Darien decal posted in their window. Darien Park District Farmers Market on Wednesdays  

The Darien Park District is hosting a Farmers Market on Wednesdays thru October 8.  The Market runs from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m at the Darien  Community Park 71st Street Parking Lot.   

The Farmers Market features a wide variety of seasonally fresh vegetables and fruits, and other fine offerings from local vendors. 

Darien Community Blood Drive hosted by Our Lady of Peace

GenLit: A New Generation of Book Club  

The Indian Prairie Public Library's GenLit book group is a new generation of book club! This book group for 20-30 somethings meets for drinks, dinner, and discussion at various local restaurants on the fourth Wednesday of the month January through October. The group's July discussion will focus on The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey. The group will meet on Wednesday, July 23, starting at 6:30 p.m. at Home Run Inn Pizza, 7521 Lemont Rd. in Darien. In August, the group's discussion will focus on Hyperbole and a Half by Allie Brosh. The group will meet Wednesday, August 27, starting at 6:30 p.m. at The Sweet & Savory Spot, 31 N. Cass Ave. in Westmont.

Chamber of Commerce "Summer Bash Weekend"

Document Shredding 
Protect your identity and clean out your home office at the same time!  Saturday, August 16 from 10am to noon at First Merchants Bank, 8301 S. Cass Ave. Bring up to 3 boxes of documents for free shredding.  The shredding trucks will shred your documents on the spot.  Free and open to the public. 
Citizenship Assistance at Indian Prairie Library 

The Indian Prairie Public Library will offer free legal consultations for immigrants on 

Tuesday, August 19, from 9 a.m. to noon. These half-hour legal consultations on immigrant issues, including citizenship, will be provided by World Relief DuPage. Participants must make an appointment by calling (630) 887-8760 x239.

 

In addition, the library now has a new "citizenship corner" with books, DVDs, CDs, links to helpful citizenship sites, and brochures for local groups to help immigrants study for citizenship. Funds for these materials and programs were awarded by the Illinois State Library, a Division of the Office of Secretary of State, using funds provided by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the federal Library Services and Technology Act.

Family Shelter Services 10K/5K Walk - Run 

Family Shelter Services will host a 10K/5K Run-Walk at Downers Grove North High School on Sunday, September 28. 10K Start 8:15am Check-in begins: 6:30am. Costs (adults): 10K Double Loop Run: $35 5K Run/Walk: $30 CARA Members receive a $3 discount All events are free with a fundraising commitment Costs (children): 1-Mile Competitive Run, ages 8-12, $12 Kids' Fitness Fun Challenge, ages 8 and under, $12

With this year's theme "Be a Hero for Hope," participants are reminded that through their support and fundraising efforts, they are helping individuals affected by domestic violence move toward safer futures.
