Woodridge Police Department Responds to Robberies, Urges Vigilance

The Woodridge Police Department is investigating a second incident in less than a week in which a young man robbed individuals while they were in their vehicles. Both incidents took place during daytime hours and the victims were robbed, but unharmed.

  • The first incident happened at the Woodridge Jewel at 1:00 in the afternoon on Thursday, April 24
  • The second incident happened about a half mile south on Forest Drive on Sunday, April 27 at 6:00 p.m.
  • In both cases, the offender was wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a scarf to obscure his face
  • He is believed to be about 20 years old and of a thin build
  •  In the first incident his weapon was a knife, and in the second it was a gun
  • In both incidents he did not harm the victims, he wanted their money and cell phones

The Woodridge police have stepped up patrols and are analyzing evidence and actively investigating the incidents.  Surrounding Police Departments have been contacted for their assistance on both cases.  Businesses and apartment complexes in the area have been alerted.

The City of Darien recommends you always hide your valuables - never keep cell phones or wallets in your car or in plain sight. Don't carry large amounts of cash in your wallet or purse.

We encourage all residents to be alert and pay attention to their surroundings. If you see something suspicious, report it immediately to the Police by calling 911. What you think is probably nothing, might be something. You will be helping the Police, not bothering them.

If you have any information on these incidents, please contact the Woodridge Police Detective Unit at (630) 719-4764 or via email at crimetips@vil.woodridge.il.us.
