Darien Police Department Elder Services Officers |
In 2012 The Darien Police Department designated two Darien Police Officers as ESOs (Elder Services Officers). We took this step because we recognized that there was a service void between the needs of senior citizens and the levels of services that we were providing. We also sent the two officers to elder Service Officer Training provided by the Illinois Attorney General's office. Recently, due largely to the training the officers received, one of our ESOs recognized that a senior citizen was being abused by her spouse, also a senior. Our officer took those necessary steps to provide safety to the senior citizen and the result was that the abuse stopped and the senior has been placed in an environment where she is safe and able to receive the health care that she deserves. Kudos to our Officer Lauren Renner! Officers Lauren Renner and Marina Liska can be contacted at 630-971-3999 or via e-mail at LRenner@darienil.gov or MLiska@darienil.gov. We look forward to serving and collaborating with you. |

2013 Private Tree Emerald Ash Borer Treatment |
The City of Darien has recently received competitive quotes for the treatment of the Emerald Ash Borer located on private property. The recommended vendor is Tree and Turf Professionals. The treatment method consists of a licensed applicator injecting the tree with the product Treeage. For additional information regarding the treatment and general information please visit the following website: www.arborjet.com The tree would be drilled with a small hole(s) and larger trees will require multiple holes based on the diameter of the tree. The Treeage product is injected based on the tree diameter and sealed with a plug(s). The application is good for up to two years. The Ash tree must have a minimal 60% healthy canopy to be a candidate for the treatment. The Tree and Turf Professionals shall review each Ash tree prior to treatment. All payments shall be the responsibility of the homeowner. The contact person for Tree and Turf Professionals is Lyle McGinn at 630-759-7389 or email at lmcginn@treeandturf.com The measurement for a tree is determined by the diameter. If you would like to determine the measurement of your tree take an inch tape measure and measure approximately 4-foot up from the base of the tree and around the tree. This will be your circumference. You can then go to their website Insert the unit number in the Circumference box and move the pointer to the Solve Others box and hit Enter. The calculator will provide the Diameter. Below is the pricing schedule for the treatment. Diameter Cost Ash Tree 3 to 6 inch Diameter $55.00 Per Application Ash Tree 6 1/8 to 10 inch Diameter $88.00 Per Application Ash Tree 10 1/8 to 14 inch Diameter $116.00 Per Application Ash Tree 14 1/8 to 18 inch Diameter $144.00 Per Application Ash Tree 18 1/8 to 22 inch Diameter $172.00 Per Application Ash Tree 22 1/8 to 26 inch Diameter $215.00 Per Application Ash Tree 26 1/8 to 30 inch Diameter $255.00 Per Application Ash Tree 30 1/8 to 35 inch Diameter $399.00 Per Application Ash Tree 35 1/8 to 40 inch Diameter $454.00 Per Application Ash Tree 40 1/8 to 45 inch Diameter $509.00 Per Application Ash Tree 45 1/8 to 50 inch Diameter $564.00 Per Application Ash Tree 50 1/8 to 55 inch Diameter $619.00 Per Application Ash Tree 55 1/8 to 60 inch Diameter $674.00 Per Application |
Building Permit Fees Waived |
At the March 18th, 2013 Council Meeting the City Council approved a resolution to waive certain building permit fees. The goal is to encourage home improvements and provide a financial incentive to those residents that are planning home projects. A similar program was successfully initiated in 2001 & 2011. The proposal waives the building permit fee for residents and business/property owners. Permits must still be obtained, and fees paid to outside vendors necessary to ensure the safety of the project are still applicable. Below is an example of permits that will have permit fees waived now thru April, 2014. For more information please call the Building Department at 630-353-8115.
