The practice of yoga like any other mind-fullness practice, is a practice of self reflection. It is not a practice of self improvement, although many seem to be confused about this. In other words it's not about becoming a better person based on your own or others judgments of you, but it's a practice towards becoming who you actually already are. That beautiful and powerful being of light and love, that needs no improvement of any kind.

A practice of self reflection guides us on an inner journey. It shows us how to look closely at our own thoughts and reactions, becoming increasingly aware of what is real and what is not. It's like taking a magnifying glass and putting it at yourself. And then to look through it, being aware of any judgments or excuses you might make up concerning anything you see within yourself. It's to open a door towards self acceptance, without condoning or denying any of what we see. It's allowing what is already taking place to be what it is, not pretending within our minds that it's anything else. And then when we see, as Krishnamurti said, there is change.

This takes courage and a soft heart. It takes compassion towards our self, and then there can be true compassion and empathy toward others. All this is possible by simply setting aside some time in which we, one way or another, look inside with an honest intent of wanting to actually see what is. It can be done as a moving meditation with posture practice, by breathing practice, seated or walking meditation. No matter how we choose to practice, there has to be an underlying wish to see reality, and not just our own made up stories  and interpretations.

This practice brings a multitude of positive influences on our lives, and it brings us the sense of being alive and awake. Ernest Hemingway put it in these words:

"Try to learn to breathe deeply,

really to taste food when you eat,

and when you sleep, really to sleep.

Try as much as possible to be wholly alive with all your

might, and when you laugh, laugh like hell.

And when you get angry, get good and angry.

Try to be alive.

You will be dead soon enough."

Practice is a path towards waking up and being alive. So to fully enjoy the magic of human life, and to experience Love.

Intro to Medical Qigong

Saturday the 13th of February

Body,Sense and Soul

11 am - 12 pm

Nyack's own Nancy Fisher,  Lic. Acupuncturist will be guiding us in Chinese Medical School of Yijin Jing style of Qigong that help us prevent and treat diseases.

According to Chinese Medicine the tendons and the acupuncture meridians (pathways)
are closely related. When a tendon is diseased or stagnated the meridian will be as well.  As you work with the tendons hence the meridians, the Qi (energy) and the Blood that move through the organs flow more freely, and your organs and their systems become healthier.

With consistent practice you will see benefits including aiding in the healing of all forms of lung, heart and breast disease to mention just a few. A deeper aspect of the practice reveals that as you move your tendons in the exercises you also break through that barrier of releasing what Chinese medicine calls Yang Qi, which for the Masters of this art form meant breaking into the spiritual realm dissolving body and mind.

Moving With Your Breath in Asana Practice

Saturday the 20th of February

Ramapo College NJ

2 pm - 4:30 pm

Breath is truly the essence of the posture practice. When we free up the breath, we facilitate a free flow of life force itself.

Join Lena to explore how to stay true to, and how to move with, the rhythm of your own breath.
Your breath moves your physical body naturally, like the ebb and flow of a swimming jelly fish. Take this opportunity to enhance your understanding of how to take advantage of these natural movements of your breath. Learn how to use the breath to facilitate moving from posture to posture in a sun salutation, and as you enter and exit any of your postures.
Your movements will become more fluid, organic and conscious, making your asana practice therapeutic, ease full and meditative. This fluidity and ease will spill into your everyday life and all other activities.

To preregister go
here or pay at the door on the day of the workshop.

The Lotus Flower

The Lotus is one of the most beautiful flowers in the world. It has its roots in the mud, at the bottom of streams and ponds, but rises to bloom above the water without becoming wet or tainted by the mire below. It symbolically represents being fully grounded in earth, yet aspiring towards the divine. For thousands of years the Lotus has symbolized spiritual growth and self realization.
