Serving on a volunteer board
Serving in a leadership role on a volunteer board is a recognition of your efforts and demonstrates a longstanding and strong commitment to an association or non-profit organization. It is also a lot of work and a huge responsibility! Accepting a "seat at the table," requires understanding the organization's expectations of your time and expertise. According to one experienced board member: "My rule of thumb on board service is three years. One year to learn the lay of the land, one year to make a major contribution, and one year to assure continuity of leadership and association goals." |
