Make it matter
The start of a face-to-face conversation or phone call or the beginning of an email or text is a natural opportunity to make a connection. How? Framing your greeting, introduction, subject line or text message in a way that establishes its intent--to inform, advise, update, make a request, thank, touch base, or introduce yourself--helps the other person determine his or her interest and find value in continuing the communication. It helps shift the recipient's thinking from "Who are you and/or why are you reaching out to me?" towards a more meaningful communication, conversation and/or time well spent. |
