Make no assumptions
Research is all about learning how to think. It's a willingness to acknowledge you don't know everything; you are open to discovering new ideas and have a sincere desire to "stay in the know." Research tells others that you understand that being prepared is a (learned) skill, and you enjoy figuring out what things mean. It shows you respect the people you work with.
