CASE STUDY: How the German FA is addressing current coaching needs in German Football

The  German FA (DFB) have recently conducted research and highlighted a number of key issues:

  • 75,000 Licensed Coaches ( some of these may of course not be currently coaching teams )
  • 165,000 Registered Teams
  • Thus a shortfall of almost 100,000 qualified coaches ( 95,000 to be exact) & a  maximum of 45% of teams in Germany have a qualified coach
  • The research into why players 'dropped out' of football revealed that the 'quality of coaching ' was the most cited reason
Typically the DFB have developed a robust plan to deal with this problem and Willi Hink,The DFB Director for Amateur Football, recently outlined this plan in Power Point at the UEFA Grassroots Seminar in Oslo. The plan includes use of the following tactics:

  • Short ' Learning on Demand Modules '
  • E-Learning and Online
  • 'DFB on the Move' Coaches in Mini- Vans who visit over 120 clubs per year
The full Power Point presentation is available to view here
