O'Brien, Anderson named to Sikeston Honors Board
Public Ceremony Scheduled for May 21
Two outstanding volunteers with youth soccer, baseball and basketball were selected by the Sikeston Park Board for installation on their Honors Board.
Dan O'Brien  and Rod Anderson will be the 42nd and 43rd volunteers to be installed on the Board since 1986, when the Park Board began recognizing outstanding men and women who have made significant contributions to youth programs in Sikeston.
O'Brien coached youth soccer and baseball for eight years, and youth basketball for six.  He served as a league officer for both the Sikeston Youth Soccer League and Sikeston Area Youth Baseball, and was tournament director for the 12-year-old state tournament in 2007 and the 13-year-old Midwest Plains Regional Tournament in 2008. In addition to coaching, O'Brien has been very involved in maintenance of both baseball and soccer fields.  O'Brien spearheaded fundraising efforts for the installation of irrigation systems and field renovations at the VFW Stadium.
Anderson began coaching youth basketball at the age of 13.  In 1979, six months too old to play, he coached in the Tanner Street Church of God's community basketball program.  During his 14- year tenure with the basketball program he has served as a director, league coordinator, scorekeeper and even as a concession worker. From 2002-2008, Anderson was a youth baseball coach and league coordinator.  He also coached all-star teams for seven seasons.  From 2004-2008 his teams were State and Midwest Plains Regional champs, finishing third in the Babe Ruth World Series in 2008.
Bronze plaques commemorating the contributions of O'Brien and Anderson will be installed on the Honors Board in a public ceremony on May 21.
Williams Named Public Works Employee of the Quarter
To be Recognized April 7
Jamie Williams
Code Enforcement Officer Jamie Williams will be honored as the Public Works' Employee of the Second Quarter during the April 7 City Council Meeting

In his capacity as Code Enforcement Officer, Williams performs building inspections, property maintenance inspections and animal control duties.  Due to vacancies in the Division, Williams has assumed additional animal control duties.  Additionally, during the recent snow emergencies he volunteered to work nights as a snow plow operator. Williams is being honored for his contributions to animal control operations and his willingness to assist co-workers during emergency situations.

Public Safety Recongizes Harrell
Named Employee of Second Quarter
Jimmie Harrell
Firefigher Jimmy Harrell will be recognized as the Public Safety Employee of the Quarter during Council's April 7 meeting.

In his capacity as a firefighter, Harrell is noted for his on-going efforts to learn new, useful life-saving and cost-saving information, and sharing this with fellow Fire Division personnel.  As part of a recent assignment, Harrell was asked to standardize emergency generator connections at City facilities.  In addition to overseeing the work, Harrell developed a Powerpoint presentation instructing DPS personnel on the safe and proper methods of connecting these generators.
