St. John's Bayou Clean-out Project
Stormwater Management Efforts Continue
In ongoing efforts to control stormwater runoff, the Scott County Consolidated #2 Drainage District has contracted for the clearing of brush and trees from the St. John's Bayou waterway. Estimated to cost $100,000, this project begins at Sikeston's northern city limits, continuing north to the Mini Farms area.
The City of Sikeston will be researching when the portions of St. John's Bayou running through the City will be eligible for clearing. Records indicate this was last done in 2002.
With St. Johns Bayou being one of the major outfalls for the City of Sikeston, ditch clearing will improve the flow of stormwater away from populated areas, decrease the amount of pollutants that may collect along the banks, and provide for greater ease of inspection. Sikeston Public Works crews perform regular ditch inspections as part of the City's Stormwater Management Program.
