College Holds Scholarship Luncheon

COE recently honored both scholarship recipients and those who have endowed scholarships at a luncheon at the Bishop Alumni Center. COE Board of Advisors members also attended the event and later gathered for their spring board meeting.

Visit Day Includes History Lesson

High School seniors interested in pursuing an education degree got a history lesson as part of their tour when they visited The Oak Grove School, a late 19th/early 20th century schoolhouse now located at Georgia Southern. The school was donated by COE Board of Advisors Member Jan Anderson and serves as a reminder of how far education has progressed in rural Georgia. The high school students and their families toured campus and met with COE faculty during their visit.

Partnership Council Awards Grands
Bringing together the expertise of COE faculty and the unique needs of partner schools, COE's Partnership Council this spring awarded seven grants to help improve teacher effectiveness and student success. The grants included creating a professional learning community at Marlow Elementary School in Guyton, Georgia, with 22 classroom teachers and 3 teacher candidates around the subject of differentiated instruction. Under the direction of Assistant Professor Melony Allen, participating inservice teachers not only gain insight into their own teaching, they also have the opportunity to create novel approaches to differentiated learning. Participating teachers will be eligible for professional learning credits.
"This is just one example of how we're working together to improve learning," said Partnership Council Coordinator Christine A. Draper. "We're excited by the opportunity to offer grants and to create an open dialogue through the council," Draper added. Click here for information on the Partnership Council
