Two COE Alumni Named Georgia's 2013 National Distinguished Principals
Two COE doctoral alumni have been named Georgia's 2013 National Distinguished Principals through the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP). This year's Georgia winners are Jesse Davis, principal of Feagin Mill Middle Schoo l in Houston County, and Amy Duke, principal of Springdale Elementary School in Bibb County.
The program, begun in 1984, was established to recognize and celebrate elementary and middle-level principals "who set high standards for instruction, student achievement, character and climate for the students, families and staffs in their learning communities" according to NAESP. They will be honored in late October in Washington, DC, as part of National Principals Month. The award-winning principals will also have an opportunity to share best practices during the event. NAESP Executive Director Gail Connelly said of the honorees, "only a principal can move a school from good to great, simultaneously championing children and uplifting the communities they serve." COE Offers Google Apps Training to K-12 Educators
COE's Instructional Resource Center Coordinator Daniel Rivera is helping educators keep pace with new technology and its application in classrooms and schools. In the first of a series, Rivera is offering a 10-hour course to K-12 educators on using Google Apps. The first six hours will be held at the Eagle Techxpo at Georgia Southern on November 1. The remaining four hours will be online and are more classroom-centered and targeted to teachers and administrators. PLU credit is available. "This is just one of the ways we work together with schools throughout the area," said COE Dean Thomas Koballa. "Keeping pace with educational technology is a must for everyone -- our teacher candidates going into schools that have adopted system-wide technology as well as K-12 educators who may need help in getting the most out of the technology."
