This is a real estate property tax re-assessment year for Horry County. These are conducted every 5 years. The county's assessors have spent a good part of 2014 re-evaluating all of the property values in the county (although 2014 sales don't count - See enclosed article for explanation!). This is a huge project and I wouldn't wish it on anyone, especially with the roller coaster ride that property values have taken in recent years. The Reassessment article also includes a detailed overview of our property tax process as well as contact info for the local county taxing departments. You might be surprised at some of the unusual procedures.

By the way, if you read last month's newsletter, I called this year's real estate sales a "knuckleball" market with sales moving forward but with the pace of sales activity fluttering all over the place with little regard for normal historical seasonal patterns. Over the past 8 days, I've received 6 offers on oceanfront condos - in what is normally one of the slower times of the year. Go figure!
