Winter Lawn Fertilization
      Winter lawn fertilization
Perhaps you've aerated or de-thatched and over-seeded your lawn this fall, but there is still one more important step. Your lawn may need one last round of fertilization for winter. A winter fertilizer high in nitrogen will provide grass roots with the nutrients needed for overwinter and promote new and healthy growth in the spring.

Give your lawn valuable nutrients for the winter. Contact Arbor Masters® to schedule your winter lawn fertilization treatment.

FallTreeThe Benefits of Fall Tree Care

Fall tree care

Are you taking chances with your trees? Even though we are into fall and winter is not far behind, trees continue to grow and must be maintained. Without maintenance tree branches can grow into power lines, encroach upon roof lines and hang precariously over your drive and the street.

Routine maintenance for trees includes cleaning, thinning, reducing and raising. Cleaning trees of deadwood allows the tree to focus growth to live branches. Thinning or ventilating the canopy will allow air to flow through the canopy. Without a well ventilated tree, thick canopies can act like a wall and when hit by strong winds, can break limbs or cause enough damage that a tree must be removed. Reducing tree branches prevents trees from rubbing against outside structures, other trees and overhead lines. Finally, raising your trees will allow clearance for traffic, pedestrians and line of sight.

Preventative maintenance is to key to tree care. Contact the tree care experts in your area for an estimate with a Certified Arborist. Keep your trees and your landscape safe and your trees healthy this fall.

WildlifeProtecting Your Landscape from Wildlife
Deer damage

During the long winter months, food sources for wildlife become scarce. Unfortunately with little plant material to eat, rabbits and deer will turn to trees, shrubs and plantings in your landscape.

Although rabbits are cute, they are prolific, destructive and are almost impossible to control. Newly planted or young trees are particularly attractive to wildlife with their new buds and smaller, tender branches. Both rabbits and deer can strip off the tree bark which can expose the tree's soft cambium and sapwood layers. The cambium layer acts as the tree's circulatory system, carrying nutrients and water vital for the tree to survive.

Like rabbits, deer will strip the bark off trees. However, it is the deer's antlers which can cause severe and unsightly damage to tree trunks. Deer will rub their antlers on tree trunks to leave their scent and mark their territory. As a result of this rubbing, trees can be permanently scarred and even die. Although you can put protective fences around your trees and shrubs, it is not always practical. The best defense against deer and rabbit damage is a prevention program from the experts at Arbor Masters® of Kansas City.

No one wants to spend their weekends raking piles of leaves and cleaning out their gutters. Keeping up with the falling leaves on your lawn and in your gardens can seem like a never-ending job.

Leaves left on the lawn and in gardens over the winter can smother your grass and be a haven for insects and diseases. Mulching leaves with a mower is good up to a point, but too many mulched leaves can create a thick thatch that can prevent moisture and nutrients necessary for root growth. Arbor Masters® of Kansas City can provide a fall yard clean-up that can include fall leaf and branch debris removal, shrub pruning and gutter cleaning.

Don't spend your weekends raking leaves and cleaning your gutters. Let the professionals at Arbor Masters® of Kansas City do the raking for you.
