Preparing Your Landscape For Spring
|
|
April showers bring May flowers but it also brings weeds, insects and spring storms. Make sure that your landscape is ready for spring by following these simple guidelines:
- Prune fruit and woody trees (Ash, Birch, Oaks and Pines).
- Apply dormant oil to help protect and control over-wintering insects.
- Apply a fungicide to Crabapples, Hawthorns and Pines to help protect them from disease.
- Stimulate new spring tree growth with a deep root fertilization treatment.
- Clean out dead plants and debris from last year's garden beds.
- Apply a fruit reducer to Pin Oaks and Sweet Gum trees to lessen fruit production.
- Prepare lawns with an early per-emergent fertilization and an application for broadleaf weed control.
- Sign up for your spring sprinkler evaluation and activation.

The Benefits of Mulch
|
|
Adding mulch to your landscape not only helps the environment but provides a striking backdrop to your trees, shrubs and plants. Mulch offers additional benefits such as weed control, moisture retention, soil erosion prevention and adds additional nutrients to the soil. The recommended amount of mulch for your trees and landscape is between 2 and 3 inches and should be spread out evenly around the base of trees and throughout the garden. Too much mulch can prohibit water absorption and oxygen vital for plants, shrubs and trees to survive.
Enrich the beauty of your landscape with decorative and functional mulch. Contact the landscape experts at Arbor Masters® of Kansas City to learn more about the benefits of mulch.
