"I love SOU, the professors, the campus, the programs, the area of Ashland, and the
beautiful life I lead. None of what I know and have become would be the same without
this scholarship opening doors for me. Thank you, thank you, thank you."

Presidential Scholarship recipient

Dear Greetings! ,

Thanksgiving is a time to express appreciation for the SOU community. The Office of Development has the honor to work with exceptional students, faculty, staff and friends of the University who inspire us and reinforce our dedication to accessible education. We would like to take this opportunity to simply thank you for your engagement with SOU and to provide you with stories of gratitude.

Our students are tenacious individuals whose experiences demonstrate the power of an SOU education. Please enjoy our stories about giving thanks.  We hope that they bring you good cheer as you celebrate the holiday.

Happy Thanksgiving from the Office of Development

Thanking Our Faculty and Staff Donors

Excitement and fun were contagious as SOU celebrated the first annual President's Faculty and Staff Donor Appreciation Event November 2.  An opportunity to thank employees for their gifts to the University, the event marked the second year of the Faculty and Staff Giving program.  "[Giving] is what I value.  I have devoted my life to what SOU stands for, a liberal arts and sciences education," said University Seminar Director Mada Morgan. Students Thankful for Scholarship Support

Senior Tricia Black (pictured with her children above) was the recipient of the Jim and Betty Akerill Memorial Scholarship and Senior Jeannie Herman was the recipient of the Robert Ruhl Learning Fellowship this fall.

The Akerill scholarship provides full in-state tuition for nontraditional SOU students. "I was thrilled to find out that I was the recipient," said Black.  "My family and I were uncertain of how we would afford another year of school.  Receiving this scholarship ensured that I would be able to complete my senior year at SOU and graduate in June.  I cannot thank the Foundation enough for this scholarship."  Read More

"I feel fortunate that scholarship donors acknowledge my desire to achieve success as much as I do."
