Meet RMH Houston Family Lori and Arianna

For many people, Ronald McDonald House Houston brings the comfort of Home to critically ill children and their families but it also brings a bond with other families that cannot be replaced. Children get to meet and play with other children who are going through similar illnesses and parents have other parents close by that they can relate to.

Lori and her daughter Arianna have lit up the Holcombe House since first arriving this Summer from Missouri. Arianna, like most 8 year old girls, loves American Girl dolls, arts & crafts and playing dress up with her friends.

"Having a place to be and having fun things to do is helpful but the most amazing thing is having a friend," Lori said. "Arianna met Maddie and they immediately bonded. Maddie is almost the same age as Arianna and the two girls have been going through very similar cancer treatments for years."

"At Ronald McDonald House Houston, families with seriously ill children being treated in Texas Medical Center institutions find much more than warm beds and a roof over their heads - they're enveloped in an atmosphere of care, compassion and support."

Update On Our Resident House Pooch
Mogie had quite a busy Summer! While maintaining his full-time job of serving as Key Comfort Ambassador at Holcombe House, he has been busy promoting his book with visits to MD Anderson Children's Cancer Hospital and PwC in Houston as well as Book People bookstore in Austin, TX. It was an exciting time for everyone at the House when we learned that "Mogie: The Heart of the House" was named as a Groundbreaking Reading Choice for Fall by Reading.org.

Mogie will continue pulling double duty keeping up with his RMH Houston duties as House pup and appearances at several school book fairs and a special appearance at the Texas Book Festival in Austin.

The book and *new* audio version can be purchased by clicking here. Be sure to keep up with Mogie by visiting his blog and liking his Facebook page.
"I remember the House before Mogie and how his presence changed the whole feel of the House. I have watched my kids and the other kids there at the House as they see his fuzzy head come out from behind the desk and the smiles and utter joy it produces. And I have had my moments where what I needed most was a dog to love on because sometimes that's what is needed to soothe an aching soul. Mogie contributes (more than I can say) to the feeling of Home and unconditional love only a pup can deliver. Congratulations Mogie and all those that make him a part of our lives. We are blessed by him!"

"We were at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital for nearly a month. While my infant son was in the PICU, my husband was able to sleep at the Ronald McDonald House inside Children's Memorial Hermann. Before he returned the key in the morning I would use the shower. I couldn't stand to leave my baby's side but that 15 minutes every morning and the fact that daddy could be just down the hall overnight was priceless. We will never be able to give back all that we received but we will share our experience with anyone who will listen. We are so grateful for such a generous and gracious gift. Thank you."

"For three weeks after our daughter was born, we were able to stay at the Ronald McDonald House inside Texas Children's Hospital while our daughter was treated and recovering in the NICU. We are forever indebted and continue to pledge support each year so that families may have the same opportunity. It was one of the most scary and stressful times in our lives, and not having to drive an hour back home every night made it so much more comforting. I don't know what we would have done without the always available water, snacks, meals and mostly a place that was comfortable to rest and shower."

"Ronald McDonald House Houston is the best you can get when you have your little one in the NICU. I can't thank the people at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital and the House on Holcombe enough. I'm from Edinburg and the help they provided while I needed it was priceless. Thanks to the staff and all the volunteers I met. I know I was just 1 of hundreds of faces they see but to me they are special people I met in a very difficult time and I will always remember."

"I want to thank the Ronald McDonald House at Texas Children's Hospital for everything they did for our family during our sons open heart surgery. What a wonderful group of people and it was so nice to be able to get some rest during the night and only be a few floors under the ICU. We will most definitely be supporting this great organization!"
