Giving is part of what we do...
From teaching Financial Literacy to area students to volunteering at a local non-profit, Bank of the West staff engage themselves in the communities in which they serve.
Missi Risinger, VP/Branch Manager, Vernon, speaks to students at
Shive Elementary, Vernon, TX.
Financial Literacy is vital to the success of local economies and it is important for us that children learn financial skills and to educate them at an early age to become better at handling money and credit as adults.

Grapevine Bank of the West staff & family members volunteer at GRACE Donation Station

Our communities are important to us... so when we heard about the fire at GRACE (Grapevine Relief & Community Exchange), Grapevine, we stepped up to collect items from our customers and our staff and volunteered to help the GRACE Donation Station on a Saturday morning. Our small way of giving thanks for the many services they provide to the less fortunate children, women in transition and seniors in our area.

Thank you GRACE for all you
do for the community!

Summer Fun Facts

  • Popsicles, a popular summer treat, were accidentally invented by an 11 year-old in San Francisco in 1905. He left a glass of soda sitting outside and by the next morning it had frozen and he began selling them at an amusement park in NJ..  Cherry is the #1 flavor in the U.S..

  • July, the hottest month in the Northern Hemisphere, is National Ice Cream month. Americans eat an average of 20 quarts of ice cream each year ~ Of course those numbers could change in Texas without Blue Bell! Most popular flavor ~ Vanilla.
  • A group of researchers found that tweets around the world were more positive as their region approached the summer solstice than those who lived in parts of the world that were approaching the winter solstice.

  • According to custom in the U.S., a person can wear white pants only during the summer, or between Memorial Day & Labor Day.  (Didn't your mother always tell you this?)

Consumer Tips
What you need to know about EMV and Chip Cards
Recent data breaches and identity theft reports have heightened consumer awareness around the security of merchant payments.  Consumers may find themselves asking, "How can I better protect myself and my personal financial information?"
What is EMV?
EMV - an abbreviation for Europay, MasterCard and Visa - is an internationally adopted payments standard that utilizes microchip technology to authenticate and process debit card and credit card transactions.  EMV cards contain an embedded microchip that provides stronger security features not possible with traditional magnetic strip cards.
Why is EMV so important?
Simply put, chip cards are more secure. By using the chip technology instead of traditional magnetic stripe technology, chip cards offer enhanced protection of cardholder information while also reducing fraud resulting from counterfeit, lost and stolen cards. And not to worry - Make you online purchases with your chip card in the same way you use a magnetic stripe card.
So what's different?
For now, chip cards still feature a magnetic stripe so they work on all payment terminals and ATM's.  However, using your chip card will mean a slightly different experience at the checkout counter.
Instead of the traditional "swiping" of the card, the new chip card will be "inserted" or "dipped" into the EMV terminals where it will stay for the duration of the transaction; similar to the way some ATM's work today. It is important to remember to take your card after the transaction is completed.
How does this affect merchant customers?
Beginning October 2015, all businesses who use terminal processing for swiping credit cards will be subject to taking on the liability of each transaction if you are not using an EMV terminal.
As a Bank of the West merchant customer, you will be receiving information from us that further details this EMV change.
