Jeff Stephenson, PE PTOE
ALSITE President
I hope everyone has had a great first part of 2015. And where did 2014 go? I can't believe that I'm actually writing a President's Message! It is such a privilege and honor to serve and lead this great organization. Greg Dawkins did an excellent job as our 2014 President. He provided great leadership to our membership and a tremendous example to model.
Please plan to join us for our Spring Meeting at American Village in Montevallo on Thursday, March 12. If you plan to attend, and have not been to American Village before, you are in for quite a treat. Cody Long is overseeing local arrangements, and Rod Turochy is working on a great technical program. After the meeting, we will hold the Fourth Annual Student Traffic Bowl. We should commend the teams from past competitions for lots of correct answers and close finishes. I'm sure we will have another great competition this year.
The SDITE Annual Meeting will be held on April 19-22 in Biloxi, Mississippi. It would be great to see lots of Alabama faces at the meeting! Also, our Annual Meeting will be June 3-5 at The Beach Club in Gulf Shores. Deep South ITE will be joining us again this year. The Annual Meeting is always a great meeting - the folks at Vulcan do such a tremendous job.
We are looking forward to another big year for ALSITE. We learned at our 2014 Fall Meeting that there will be some changes this year that will impact our Teen Crash Course Service Project. There will be several opportunities for our membership to volunteer for this very important outreach to our state's youngest drivers.
ALSITE's success is only possible through the efforts of our many Committees and their volunteers. I am so grateful for everything that they do. If you are interested in getting more involved and serving on a Committee, please contact an Officer and we will help you get plugged in. I look forward to working alongside you all as we continue to make ALSITE one of the premiere Sections in all of ITE. I hope to see you all in Montevallo on March 12.

- Using LOS and Suitability Measures to Prioritize Bicycle Facility Improvements
- US-280 Improvements & Lessons Learned
- Improvements to College Street & Shug Jordan Parkway/University Drive
- Toomer's Corner Redevelopment
- Unique Solutions for Flashing Yellow Arrows
- GDOT Flashing Yellow Arrow Policy
- Innovative Intersections & Interchanges - Alabama's Future?
- Lake Charles Metropolitan Transportation Plan Update including Use of Cellular Data in Transportation Planning
After a wonderful lunch, we conducted our Fall Business Meeting, which included updates from many of ALSITE's committees and their current activities. One of the items we discussed was the 2018 Southern District ITE Annual Meeting, which will be held at the Renaissance Mobile Riverview Plaza Hotel in Mobile on April 7-11, 2018. It might seem like 2018 is a long way away, but it will be here before we know it! Thanks to the following individuals who have been involved in the early planning stages and have agreed to chair the Local Arrangements Committee (LAC) for the 2018 SDITE Annual Meeting:
- Jennifer White, City of Mobile, LAC Co-Chair
- Shane Bergin, Neel-Schaffer, LAC Co-Chair
Thanks to Rod Turochy and the Auburn Student Chapter of ITE for their efforts with the meeting arrangements.
The meeting was a tremendous success!
