The Magic Words for This Saturday are "CAR POOL"

2014 Header

KYC's free valet parking program will be severely tested this weekend during

the BassAckwards festivities.  Each year, this is the busiest parking weekend of the season.  The fact is, no matter how well we manage the facility, sometimes there just are NO MORE PLACES TO PARK.  This Friday night and Saturday will likely be two of those days unless each of us does our part to help.

Here's what we can all do:

One Boat, One Car. Whether you're here for the summer or just for the

party or the race, please make arrangements to have you and your crew

arrive in one vehicle!  If you're coming from different areas, there is a public parking area on Shore Road, on the far side of Pocasset center, adjacent to

the bridge over the Pocasset River.  Please arrange to have your crew leave

their cars there and drive the mile and a half to the marina with you in one car.

Valet Park Your Car.  If you've got a parking sticker and you think that you'll need to move your car for any reason on Saturday, please leave it with the

valet when you arrive at the marina.  If you don't have a sticker, parking will

be complimentary valet-only on Friday and Saturday.  We'll be blocking cars and double parking to create more space, and being able to move your car if necessary is essential to our success.

There Will Be No Parking Along the Right Side of the Entrance Drive as You Enter the Property.  Violators Will Be Towed.

Let Us Know if You'll Be Gone for the Whole Weekend.  We'll relieve some pressure by moving longer-term parkers to the property adjacent to the marina.  Just give us a call on your way back in and we'll have your car waiting for you.

Please Be Patient.  We're doing our best to ensure that everyone has reasonable access to the property, that pedestians are safe, and that emergency vehicles can get in if they are needed.  We appreciate your help.

A Spectator's Guide to the BassAckwards Race

Race to the Finish 2011

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE TOWN OF BOURNE WILL CLOSE BASSETTS ISLAND TO ALL VESSELS ON SATURDAY 7/26 FROM 6AM UNTIL 11PM.  NO BOATS WILL BE ALLOWED TO ANCHOR OR BEACH AT THE ISLAND DURING THIS PERIOD.

The BassAckwards Race begins and ends in Outer Red Brook Harbor.  The race begins at 12:00 noon this Saturday, and should take between 2 and 2 1/2 hours to complete, depending upon wind conditions.  The start/finish line is marked at one end by a temporary marker, and by the committee boat, Patience at the other.

The race is run in a pursuit format, meaning that boats start at different times determined by their handicaps - slowest boats start first, fastest boats start later. The fastest boat may start almost an hour after the slowest begins the race.  This format makes for exciting finishes because, at least in theory, all 40 boats should finish at about the same time. If you'd like to watch:

The start of the race is an exercise in precise timing by the boat captain and crew. The idea is for each boat to cross the starting line at as close to the boat's designated time as possible - without crossing early.  Many boats will be zig zagging around the starting area in preparation for their start, and you can follow the action on VHF channel 78.  Please listen but do not talk for any reason on 78 unless you are in the race, and STAY WELL CLEAR OF THE STARTING AREA

so you don't interfere with the starting sequence.

The first boat to cross the finish line, usually between 2:00 and 2:30, is the winner, making it easy for spectators to follow the action.  Again, please stay off of VHF 78 and stay WELL CLEAR OF THE FINISH LINE so you don't interfere with the action.

If you've never watched before, we invite you to check out an exciting sport and cheer on your favorites!
